Shambo
I'd definitely consider a Warmoth body, but I'd like to think there's a UK luthier who'd be happy to supply something comparable. It's the look of the mass produced, everyday, turn-key bass I'm after, and I'd like to make it as genuine as I can afford. Something that has a simple quality about it, a classic workhorse Fender and a players instrument. I could give a new body it's own 'road worn' look by not being too precious about it. If Fender had specified a natural finish with their new line of USA basses, (along with the staple black, white and 3TSB), I wouldn't have started this thread. The Jazz has got its natural '75 RI, so why no Precision equivalent?
sprocketflup
I know its not quite natural, does the 'amber' finish tickle your tastebuds?

Offering natural bodied basses requires a better standard of wood and maybe the cost is too much for Fender. Fact is, originals do crop up and they are much better value than say, 60s basses and worth saving for. Either this or maybe a team built CS?
As in the discontinued VM Precision? Yes, I've been considering finding one, just for the body, to try with a Fender neck. I've never actually seen the Squier in the flesh, so I don't know if it could pass for the aged natural finish. sprocketflup
You know what, I'm not sure tbh. I bought one (amber) as I also was after a natural precision to match my natural jazz, but since moving the jazz on I haven't got round to doing what I was going to, which was strip the finish back. As a sort of 'see through' colour you know the body is going to be reasonable wood. Its in a case at me Mums at the minute, Ill take a few pics for you when I next go there if you like, and you can see for yourself if its do-able. They come up for sale on here from time to time

ZilchWoolham
I haven't bought anything from them myself, but https://www.guitarbuild.co.uk might be worth a look. They offer customised parts in the vein of Warmoth, although their website is a bit more primitive. Still, you could get a 1-piece alder or ash body made, and you'll be able to preview the piece of wood used. You'll have to get it finished by someone else, though, or do it yourself. Jon Shuker will also make you a body, and you can always expect a very good job from him. sprocketflup
Wel, as you can see its a 3 piece body underneath that ( pretty thick) lacquer. The woods themselves look ok tho? Nothing 'coffee table' fancy, alder or swamp ash, not too heavy and not too valuable?
I've just put my order in with the exceptional Jon Shuker of ShukerGuitars.co.uk as I have a 70's neck that needs mating with a body. The 'John Deacon' tribute (80-85 period) will be coming together courtesy of the fine hands of Jon. Alder, natural and a quality finish that will allow the body to resonate!
