Kevin Dean
If you had two cabs the same speaker configuration & same make & model , but one is a 400w version & the other a 1000w version , Would they sound different if using the same amp & same volume setting . The reason for asking is that I've had the 1000w version before but the 400w is a lot cheaper & would easily handle the volume I would be putting through it , maybe it might have a bit more punch if the speakers a working a bit harder ? Bill Fitzmaurice
If you had two cabs the same speaker configuration & same make & model , but one is a 400w version & the other a 1000w version
If that's the case they're not the same, so they probably wouldn't sound the same.
the 400w is a lot cheaper & would easily handle the volume I would be putting through it
How do you know? Unless you've taken some measurements with gear that you probably don't have there's no way of knowing how much power you put into your old cab. The power rating of a speaker doesn't reveal how loud it will go anyway, and the specs that do tell you that manufacturers never reveal. Phil Starr
That's right, they probably aren't the same model even if they are from the same manufacturer and the same configuration. they probably won't sound alike in a number of ways. Perhaps if you tell us the make and model(s) and how you want to use them we could give more practical advice.
Twincam
Well I guess if the cabs were the same exactly apart from the drivers. Then the drivers will have slightly different specs even if in the same product line. Its possible they could sound very similar and again possible they would have a slightly different tone. I would ask the manufacturer directly. Or find out the exact specs and maybe one of the knowledgeable chaps on here could give a more detailed answer. Kevin Dean
The cabs are Ashdown Mini 4 x8 " . On investigation it looks like the 1000w version has neo speakers , tweeter & has porting this was the more expensive one but as there is one going on here & I had that model before I think I will go for that one . thanks for you replies . Dan Dare
There was a pair of Ashdown 4x8s on evilBay the other day. Worth a look?
