hrnn1234
I'm looking into upgrading my bass. I currently play a Cort B4 (bassically a no name SR500) which I enjoy playing a lot but I'm a bit underwhelmed with the electronics. Soaps are a pain to change, there are far more options with a PJ setup. For the money Iwoukd put into changing the pickups I could easily just change the whole bass for something better and that would give me better options in the future. I found this bass online, I havent contacted the seller yet. He doesn't seem to know exactly what he's selling (the ad just says Ibanez bass, selling it together with an IBZ3B amp, so the dates kind of match). If anything it would be a marginal upgrade I suppose? From what I read online it's a higher end bass from the mid 90s but the only thing coming up online are ebay ads. Does anybody know anything about it? Thanks! Edited December 29, 2016 by hrnn1234
Pinball
Hi, I had a couple of MIJ Ibanez SR's from that period, an SR1000 and a SR1300. Both had a Bartolini system and pups and sounded great to my ear. Both basses had a touch of magic about them and sparkled in terms of build quality and sound. I only moved on because I found the necks too skinny and because I was moving towards 5 strings. I have heard that the ones with the ibanez pups aren't as good but have no experience to back that up I'm not a fan of variable mids on a bass as for me it is unnecessary complication...I have plenty mids control elsewhere If it has barts you may find that you don't want to change it anyway I hope that helps
Bassassin
These are very good - I had 2 MIJ SR800s (fretted & fretless) but for reaons unknown SRs do not hold their value - even high-end Japanese ones. If I remember I got about £220 for my fretless (near-mint & pretty uncommon) and swapped the fretted for another bass worth about that amount. So yes - over the odds, if it's on Ebay it won't sell for that amount, so it might be worth contacting the seller and seeing if he'll do a deal, possibly minus an amp I'm assuming you don't need! FWIW a 1992 Fujigen-built SR (looks like an SR800) was listed recently at £200 - attracted no bids. Great bass for the money.
