yorks5stringer Posted January 1, 2017 Posted January 1, 2017 Occasionally a punter in the audience will come up to me at the end of a gig and shake my hand saying 'Well done on the Bass'. Following Robbie William's lead last night, does anyone have a recommendation for a hand sanitiser that does not dry out the skin? Quote
Heathy Posted January 1, 2017 Posted January 1, 2017 I also noticed that bit of unfortunate editing! I personally get round this problem by always playing really badly. This ensures that I am left alone. Quote
yorks5stringer Posted January 1, 2017 Author Posted January 1, 2017 Playing a Warwick and using a music stand rules out a stray Basschatter approaching too... Quote
markstuk Posted January 1, 2017 Posted January 1, 2017 Domestos - given some of the gigs I've played recently :-) leaves lovely waxy finish of dead skin :-) Quote
phil.c60 Posted January 1, 2017 Posted January 1, 2017 Most people want to wash their hands after they've shaken mine: I don't care what they use. Quote
alittlebitrobot Posted January 1, 2017 Posted January 1, 2017 I just wear marigolds. Yes, it completely destroys my technique but it's worth it. Crusty jugglers... Quote
Ed_S Posted January 1, 2017 Posted January 1, 2017 Softalind Pure (or ViscoRub if you prefer more gel-like) is my personal preference - I use it every day and have never had a problem. Purell, however, dries my hands out like crazy. Quote
Delberthot Posted January 1, 2017 Posted January 1, 2017 Never thought about at the end of a gig but I'm really OCD about having clean hands during the gig so won't let anyone shake my hand. I do explain why though so as not to appear antisocial. At the end of a gig I'm always straight to the toilet anyway so would wash my hands before and after. One of the down sides of drinking a lot of water during a gig and getting older Quote
SpondonBassed Posted January 1, 2017 Posted January 1, 2017 If you wee on your hands it should help. It'll toughen your skin so you don't need moisturiser and if you do it on stage, you won't get offered many handshakes after. Quote

TimR Posted January 2, 2017 Posted January 2, 2017 Just don't put your fingers in your mouth. Skin is pretty impervious to bacteria etc. Quote
ZilchWoolham Posted January 2, 2017 Posted January 2, 2017 My recommendation is really to just wash your hands before you eat or poke yourself in the face or whatever else you like to do after a gig. No hand sanitiser helps against all viruses, anyways. Quote
fretmeister Posted January 2, 2017 Posted January 2, 2017 Sanitizer doesn't kill norovirus or C.Difficle. Soap and water do though. Quote
Cato Posted January 2, 2017 Posted January 2, 2017 In my experience, having lived with a form of psoriasis most of my life, anything alcohol based will dry the skin out incredibly quickly. I'd go for a quick wash with soap and water every time. Quote
anDy LAKIN Posted January 2, 2017 Posted January 2, 2017 oh i would say dove soap is lovely too Quote
SpondonBassed Posted January 2, 2017 Posted January 2, 2017 Argh! Dove soap. Didn't you know that it takes a sack load of doves put through a cider press to make just ONE bar?!? No wonder world peace has taken a knock... it isn't owt to do with Trump, it's you lot steadily consuming the earth's population of doves!!! For shame. Quote
BrunoBass Posted January 2, 2017 Posted January 2, 2017 Just before hand contact is established, raise your thumb to your nose, wiggle your fingers and blow a raspberry. Germs avoided, awkwardness averted 😉 Quote
Hobbayne Posted January 2, 2017 Posted January 2, 2017 After gigs we tell the punters its £5 to buy one of our CD's or a tenner to shake our hands. Strangely enough, we dont sell many CD's. Quote

I wondered if it was a bit of a cheeky "gag" on his behalf - especialy as he also seemed to be pulling a weird face at the same time. Edited January 2, 2017 by darkandrew Quote
ped Posted January 2, 2017 Posted January 2, 2017 I have a 5 minute slot in the lavatory where I accept handshakes from fans. That way I'm right next to a basin and airblade. I ask them to wash first. Quote
