bubinga5
One of my favourite bands of all time. The UK's finest at one point in time. Loose Ends made some rubbish imo, but when Carl Mcintosh and his band did it right, they really did it right. I adore soul music and music like this reassures me. Hangin on a String i think is a masterpiece. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yz1kvk9qeWI Edited January 1, 2017 by bubinga5

SpondonBassed
Ahhh. The 808 "dink". I have to say that that was one of the most annoying sounds of the eighties for me. It is the only thing I didn't like about the 808. It doesn't spoil the song however, thanks for posting.
I think he means the "808 Dink Fair Sweater Broodcock", if not, he might be talking about the awful quasi, cacky, tinpot attempt at a Cowbell sound, that was crawling all over Whitney Houston 80's tunes. Then again, it might be those funny Tom sounding things...... Wet hey, similar sounds here on this terrific tune.
It sounds like a wannabe drummer plucking on the old style ring pull, still attached, of an empty drinks can. It was on lots of singles at the time and along with the glockenspiel like quality of Yamaha's DX7, it is a sound I am happy to leave in the past. [shudders] I'd look for a sample for you only I loathe how it sounds. Funny innit?

SpondonBassed
The GTA track list is a good 'un. I often found myself playing GTA just for the tunes. The chatter on the spoof radio stations was hilarious.

MisterT
Blimey, some 808 haters... or is that h808rs. Dink must mean cowbell - unmistakeable. Each to their own
SpondonBassed
Erm, I never said I hated the TR808. I just don't like the dink or cowbellish sound because it was overused at the time. Joy Division/New Order were the model our band was moulded to. The 303 and the 808 therefore are okay by me. The 606 however, is a bit crappy but I own one anyway. I am not down with the kids. Sorry. I never will be. "hater" that's not meant to be as harsh as it comes across is it?
MisterT
Not harsh at all, Spondon - sorry, didn't mean to come across as a tw@ - I'm not You have a 606 - that was my first foray into drum machines, had the bag and all. If only I'd kept the blummin thing! Owning a 606 I always wanted an 808 - more toys and better kick / snare. Now I'm loving the 606's ride cymbal and beefed up a bit the kick and snare come alive. New Order's Confusion - now here we have Arthur Baker in command. He hired a guy with an 808 to do Afrika Bambaata's Planet Rock + various others and then did Confusion. Totally with you on that, ra-ta-taah-ta-ta-ta-taah-hey.
