AndyTravis
Heard a rumour there will be a new Taylor acoustic bass model announced at NAMM. Thinking it's based around their GS mini series, not sure if it'll be a Uke bass (can't see it...) or a full scale jobbie, the GS Mini is a tiny little thing though so I'm hoping it's a big bodied version for the bass. I lust relentlessly over the Taylor/Klein bass from the late 90's, but they're hens teeth rare and a comparative mortgage down payment if you can find one...and it's "just" and acoustic bass... Playing an acoustic gig tonight with a mates Fender BG-32, which is a dandy little thing (not a patch on the Breedlove bass I used to own, but nice none the less) and it seems we'll be doing a few more like this so my own acoustic may be needed again. Grahambythesea
I also love the Taylor bass, but as you say, mortgageable hen's teeth! I wondered why Taylor dropped them but I guess at the price it was way beyond the reach of most people who might want an acoustic bass. A cheaper one might make it more saleable, but there is a lot of competition out there.
There is very little competition if they make an acoustic bass that can be heard over a few acoustic instruments without needing an amp.
True, I don't even know that the Original Taylor could be heard like that. The bass that came near to being truly audible was the old Earthwood,IMHO, but that looked like it had escaped from a Mariachi band.😆
AndyTravis
https://m.thomann.de/gb/taylor_gs_mini_e_bass.htm# Oh dear. £700 u-bass anyone? 23" scale. Nope.
Rexel Matador
I just stumbled across this video: It's got to be the worst sounding bass guitar I've ever heard. What were they thinking?
Grahambythesea
Yep, that sounds awful. It will go the way of the other Taylor Bass - into the discontinued line.

philw
Considering the wonderful old Taylor acoustic bass, the disappointment I felt on seeing the new one all but took on a physical reality.
AndyTravis
The T5 guitar was originally designed as a bass... That would've been a great instrument. If they'd just reworked that Klein bass as a 1/2/3 series. Wasted opportunity
Winny Pooh
The only really good sounding acoustic bass is an upright. In a pure acoustic setting they are a joy, more reason to double.
fretlessguy
After hearing it and seeing the $900 + price, I believe I will stick to my Kalas.
