Hampshire Bass Bash

...yes Sunday is harder with a church building as the earliest we could get in would be about midday, and then we'd have to choose a week when there was nothing in the evening. I was thinking a Saturday but if that won't work for the majority...

A morning start is usual with these Bashes. Can you think of an alternative venue, @SimonK? I think there would be enough bodies to make it worthwhile.

The advantage with the church I'm thinking about is that it has a 50k PA, reasonable acoustics and a drum kit all set up. There are plenty of village halls as well such as this one https://www.curdridgereadingroom.co.uk/  that I have done gigs in before, but everything would need to be brought along & it would probably cost more. But I can look into it if people want?

The most difficult thing about getting a Bash off the ground is finding an organiser. So, if you're prepared to do it, Simon, please make a few inquiries. The South West Bash is held in a village hall-type venue and it works very well.

I don't think I'm volunteering to organise in its entirety as I haven't been to one before and looking at the other threads there seems to be need for a programme and tally of people/equipment. So if someone else can do that I can look to book a hall and then maybe collect monies from those coming? For instance Curdridge Reading Rooms is £250 for the day, so £25 each if ten people. Mind you I could also approach some local shops to see if they might sponsor and bring some kit along if that is allowed?

The Midlands bashes have all been on Saturdays, as have some of the others from memory. I think the SE one in 2023 may have been a Saturday, but I had to cry off. I prefer Saturdays personally.

@SimonK - start a new thread with Hampshire Bash 2025 as the title and see what dates work for you and the hall. The SW one is already booked in for next year in October, how about April?

I used to have friends in Hedge End.

So do you think there is enough interest? As mentioned I'd be happy to set a date and book a hall, but I would need someone else to commit to create a tally of attendees and arrange a schedule.

...I think we are waiting for some to volunteer to be a co-organiser (conspirator) focussing on the programme and attendees...

The SW bash is always a Sunday, Saturday is the busiest day for Gigs.

Curiously, what would everyone be looking for in a programme for this, other than lots of tea/coffee and biscuits? :D

The South West one had a running list of attendees and the kit they were bringing (which I think it important to ensure the event is viable), someone also organised a lunch, and it looks like there was a talk/demo on speaker design/building. It did occur to me that if enough people were interested in coming approaching a music shop and inviting them to bring a stand in return for some sponsorship might be an idea.

As far as a programme is concerned, I don't think it's absolutely necessary to organise an entertainment programme, especially as this would be the first Hampshire Bash. The SW Bash has relied on @Phil Starr to provide a floorshow in recent years. The SE Bash has been able to call on some high profile players to give a talk. There might be a player based in Southampton who could give a talk or demonstration. Inviting a commercial entity like a shop to attend could also work.

No need to organise anything at all.

At the last Midlands Bash I did persuade @Andyjr1515 to show us all how to properly set up a bass - tbh just an excuse for me to get him to sort out the intonation on mine! - but usually we all just talk and play bass.

There's often a raffle of bits and bobs, any surplus to charity, and a 40 minute "amps off" lunch break is a really good idea too.
