'Sound & Vision' by Bowie just came on my IPOD and it has a lovely bass line.

On further investigation it turns out to be somebody called George Murray..... can't find out anything about this guy but he played on most of Bowie's 70's albums...anyone know what happended to him ?
+1!
Probably in my top five too. Love his playing on 'New Career in a New Town' from Low album.
Apparently Andy Rourke learnt to play copping his basslines, & Murray was also a big influence on Derek Forbes.

He played on all the Bowie 'Berlin Trilogy' , & some tasty basswork of his on Iggy Pop's The Idiot album too.

Been trying myself for ages to find out what became of him too. Seems to have just disappeared.

Thanks for introducing me to 'New Career in a New Town' from Low,what a great track.

Being a big fan of Roxy & Japan, I can't believe it took me till 40 to discover Bowie's 'Low' album!

Low's got some great tracks on the first side, I like 'Be My Wife' too.

Another good one for some of Murray's tasteful basswork is 'Up the Hill Backwards', from Scary Monsters (and Super Creeps). The last album he did with Bowie, before seemingly vanishing.

George Murray, along with Dennis Davis on drums, also played on 'Station to Station', the album that was the link between Bowie's 'Soul' period and the Berlin Trilogy.. It seems to be a complete mystery as to what has happened to Murray since the late 70's, which is a real shame as he was a fine player. Great to see support for him here though.. :)
