Billy Apple Posted January 15, 2017 Author Posted January 15, 2017
Different of course. All three had a lot to offer. Hughes impresses me most.
I think Hughes has the most talent, but the least earthiness or soul or whatever you want to call it. Watching GH play here is a joy.. skidder652003 Posted January 15, 2017 Posted January 15, 2017 Yeah This time around is an unexpected treat https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wYp5IcjvQRA Quote
Twincam Posted January 15, 2017 Posted January 15, 2017 Boring choice but black night and smoke on the water. I don't know the full deep purple catalogue admittedly. But imo those two songs have stood the test of time better than some of there other stuff. I'm not saying there better, I just think much of there work now sounds a tad dated dare I say. And who doesn't like playing black night, its one of those that is simple to play but totally satisfying when you really nail it with playing and tone. Quote

ezbass Posted January 15, 2017 Posted January 15, 2017 I'm very partial to Sometimes I Feel Like Screaming by the current line up at the moment. However, the live version of Highway Star on Made In Japan always scores highly with me, it's the quintessential version in my view. Quote
timmo Posted January 15, 2017 Posted January 15, 2017 I really like Mistreated. Especially the live version in some place in USA in 1974. Perfect Strangers if it was just studio versions Quote
Ed_S Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 Probably 'King of Dreams' from the Slaves and Masters album. I enjoy a lot of the more recognised tracks too, but Joe Lynn Turner just wins it for me. Quote
Kitsto Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 Grew up with In Rock and Machine Head but my faves are: Woman From Tokyo, Might Just Take Your Life and Perfect Strangers which is the track Page and Plant would have killed for to have on Walking Into Clarksdale or whatever their album was called (and I speak as a Zep-head). Barking Spiders Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 Generally don't like them at all I'm afraid although Hush is great Quote
deepbass5 Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 (edited) Demon's eye was always mine - it was a B side of Fireball so was accessible on the pub juke boxes and i think my most selected song ever. If you were ever in White's Bar Oxford in about 72 Edited January 16, 2017 by deepbass5 Quote
Phil Adams Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 Toss up between Black Night, the single I bought with my first weeks wages, and the live Lazy. Quote
Low End Bee Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 You Fool No One. I like the funky bits. Quote
Agwin Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 Too many to choose – plus it depends on mood/day/weather etc but Highway Star (Made in Japan), Burn (Made in Europe) and Speed King are always jostling for position. 1 Quote
Ah Yes Speed King. Many years ago a school friend introduced me to hard rock with Purples 'Deep purple in Rock'. First song side one is Speed King and that 5 minutes of gut kicking rock just floored me. In a way it kinda changed my life, as Rock music became and continues to be. 1 Quote
vantagepointrocks Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 Many great tracks, but my absolute favourite is, Sometimes I Feel Like Screaming, huge fan of the guitar playing of Steve Morse. Quote
bertbass Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 Love everything from Deep Purple but if I've got to choose, Woman From Tokyo and Highway Star from Made in Japan. Oh that's 2, sorry. Quote

Guest bassman7755 Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 Burn is my favourite one to play and being in a DP tribute I play most of the ones mentioned so far. Quote
Dan Dare Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 Another vote for Highway Star. I'm a bit of a petrolhead, too, so it has to be that song. Quote
Funky Dunky Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 Burn. Awesome. They have umpteen brilliant songs but Burn is especially superb. Quote
Painy Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 Another vote for Burn here. Great fun to play too if you've got a drummer who can do it justice! Quote
ras52 Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017
No No No
Oh yes (yes yes)! Quote
