Maybe I'm A Leo is a definite contender for me too, and Lazy from the same album has some wonderful bass work. But if I had to pick just one, probably Place In Line from Who Do We Think We Are.

Thats the first time i have listened to Demons eye in over 40 years, but i can now hear how and why I found and got into Led Zep after that, that sort of incidental rambling vocal commentary at the end that runs under the band, not sure its supposed to feature as a main lyric really, it seems to be a very British Prog Rock style other bands adopted too.

Sooooo many good songs, but I do have a soft spot for this one....

[/quote]Great choice from a criminally underrated album.

Burn is a classic.

I'd personally go for Lay Down, Stay Down or Dealer.

But TBH, it would be everything Mark 3 and 4. That's Purple for me. Much prefer that time to Mark 2.

Demon's eye was always mine - it was a B side of Fireball so was accessible on the pub juke boxes and i think my most selected song ever. If you were ever in White's Bar Oxford in about 72

Demon's Eye for me too.

Another fave for me, but not best and favourite, is 'No One Came' - love that pulsing rhythm. Sums up some of my gigs.

Do you have any empirical data to prove this?

While the MkIII version may get some stick, I don't think you can ignore the groove of Mistreated and I doubt Glen Hughes on his own could give it the same soul.

Better or different?

Different of course. All three had a lot to offer. Hughes impresses me most.

Burn and Mistreated were the best Deep Purple tracks for me, and Burn the best overall album.

On balance they are prob the band I like the most.  Anyway, I can't choose but here's a great live version of the Nos on Beat Club.
