GreeneKing
That's what happens when you try to lacquer over an oiled finish Taking it back to original would be the only way methinks.

[/quote] Me too. He recons £400 to strip it and refinish it? I'd be happy to do it for half of that. But his price is a bit optimistic I would have said. If it had been nice condition okay but who knows what horrors might lie beneath that finish. A project bass and should be cheaper.
warwickhunt
Must be about the 5th or 6th sunburst from that period that I've seen with that blistered/knackered finish... if you find one undamaged, don't tap the finish too hard! Pedro1020
Seeing as I've been looking for a 5 string SSI, I thought I'd contact the guy.. although in it's current condition I'm not interested in it. Nice chap, however I'd be careful with this one. It appears whoever did the refinish sanded away the serial number. Usually for this period it's located behind the headstock between the tuners. Originally it was honey violin. Surely that's affected the resale value?
Trueno
I think I'll just stick to waxing me Thumb. I did once think about laquering it up.... naaahhh!
funkyjimbob
I know the owner of the bass and I'm pretty sure he bought it in this condition. He's a nice chap though and completely legit. I think I suggested to him to get it refinished and I think he's considering it now.
