Stylon Pilson Posted January 18, 2017 Posted January 18, 2017 Not sure whether this is the right place to post this. I received an email from offering me 20% off tickets to the London Bass Guitar Show, as I imagine many other members did. I currently have the "Send me any updates sent by the community administrator" option enabled in my notification preferences - is there any way that I can specify that I only want to be sent important site-related updates, but am not interested in receiving unsolicited advertising or other special offers? S.P. Quote
ped Posted January 18, 2017 Posted January 18, 2017 I don't think so. There will be an option soon though on the new site. We don't send mass emails often, last one was in 2013. Sorry if it caused annoyance. Quote
chris_b Posted January 18, 2017 Posted January 18, 2017 I'm sure there are a lot of people who go to this show and would appreciate 20% off. Out of all the crap that lands in my inbox every day I don't begrudge Basschat 1 email every blue moon. Quote

ROConnell Posted January 18, 2017 Posted January 18, 2017 (edited) I see where he is coming from. Yes lots of people would like it! They can opt-in. But for those who don't, opting out, an option for only site-related stuff would be good. Edited January 18, 2017 by ROConnell Quote
Yes, agreed Plus it is a Bass site with a once in a 'Blue Moon' email regarding something Bass related. Ped wasn't try to push Dutch Clogs or Morris Dancing attire. But, for others, I do understand that they would like the option. Quote
RockfordStone Posted January 18, 2017 Posted January 18, 2017 i can see the OP's point, but as far as i recall, this is the first time i have had an email from basschat advertising something. it's not like they are sending out offers and adverts daily, seems OTT to put a feature in that effectively affects one email a year. if you don't want it, delete it. Cato Posted January 18, 2017 Posted January 18, 2017 I feel slightly snubbed that I haven't received said email. Quote
RhysP Posted January 18, 2017 Posted January 18, 2017 Can't see what the problem is, it was good of them to send out a notification of the discount offer IMO. Quote
Grangur Posted January 18, 2017 Posted January 18, 2017 I didn't get the mail, but wouldn't object. Actually if BC wanted to sell advertisers space in a regular monthly advertising email I wouldn't have an issue; money to keep the site going and I can bin it. All as long as this is done as a service by BC and not passing out our contact addresses. Quote
spike Posted January 18, 2017 Posted January 18, 2017 only problem I had was I followed the link and coudn't see where to enter the discount code. Quote
MisterT Posted January 18, 2017 Posted January 18, 2017 So this 20% offer then... is it a members who have donated thing? Quote
Woodinblack Posted January 18, 2017 Posted January 18, 2017 I didn't receive the offer and I did actually use it Quote

If however I had received it I'd have regarded it as a kind offer on behalf of those nice folks who run this nuthouse (said whilst grinning like a slashed sack). As it was, I read the notice of this offer on the forum. Even though I am not going, it was nice to know that our forum leaders are getting deals for members. Is it really that big a problem for you. If so, why? Quote
Shambo Posted January 18, 2017 Posted January 18, 2017 I was a bit surprised to receive this email promo as well. It didn't exactly ruin my day but I don't understand why, as someone who has opted out of receiving such emails, this particular offer was so special? Not that I want to piss on anybody's chips but I mean:

It's in London.
It sounds sh#t.
Coffee table porn.
Bass 'heroes' my arse.
Nerd worship more like, roflz, lulz, etc.
I'm not going to a bass guitar show ever.
Probably a cure for not having a headache.
All unsolicited promotional messages can expect to receive the same negativity from me, by virtue of the fact they are unsolicited. I can't help it. If somebody turned up on my doorstep trying to flog fire extinguishers, whilst my kitchen was fully ablaze, I'd tell 'em to f@ck right off! How very dare the OP ask this question! They don't seem particularly upset though. Quote

ped Posted January 18, 2017 Posted January 18, 2017 To be honest I had no idea the email would go to everyone regardless of the setting. It's the first time I've used it - and probably the last! Anyway you know where I'll be on the 4-5th of March if you want to offer some physical resistance ped Quote
