gypsyjazzer Posted January 19, 2017 Posted January 19, 2017 I have an 1880's all wood--no laminate--heavy construction DB. Would I be doing the bass an injustice--volume/tone wise--by putting on light weight strings? (Weichs). Heavy DB's more suitable for heaver strings? Any views on the question? Quote
TPJ Posted January 20, 2017 Posted January 20, 2017 I think it's a "try and see" sort of thing. Basses all seem to respond differently. Spiro mittels choked my heavy hybrid bass, it likes Velvet Animas and Innovation Honeys which are lower tension. The unfortunate thing is that DB strings can be costly but if they don't work, you can usually get a fair amount of your money back selling them second hand. Quote
