Beesmanjohn Posted January 23, 2017 Posted January 23, 2017 Hi folks, I have a problem I'm finding difficult to solve. I have a '69 Plexiglass and the E string has broken. I know that's not normally an issue, but I can't find a short scale E with a small enough ball end to fit into the slot on the bridge, any ideas please? The Beesman. Quote
MoonBassAlpha Posted January 23, 2017 Posted January 23, 2017 A photo of the issue would be useful so we can see what we're up against. Off the top of my head, would it be possible to swap out the ball on the string for one from an old guitar string? Quote
three Posted January 25, 2017 Posted January 25, 2017 You could try reversing a double ball ended string (Status etc.) and snip off the larger ball to leave a straight end for the winding post. I'm assuming here the the bass is short scale (and that the DBE strings have 2 different sized balls). I can send an old DBE E strung if you think this might work? An image would help. An alternative is to ask Newtone for a custom wind set. Another is to sell the bass to me - I love plexi basses! Though I struggle to lift them... Quote
Beesmanjohn Posted January 27, 2017 Author Posted January 27, 2017 Thanks three, that could be a plan, I've got some double ball ends, will give it a go, I'll let you know if it works. Quote
three Posted January 31, 2017 Posted January 31, 2017 Ahh, good - please do keep us updated, it would be good to know if the reversed DBE resolves the problem. A lot depends on saddle to retainer and nut to post distances I imagine, but worth a try! Quote
Jean-Luc Pickguard Posted February 1, 2017 Posted February 1, 2017 LaBella make a danelectro-specific set of flats. I have some on my longhorn (29.5" Scale), but they might do similar rounds. These have tiny balls like a guitar string or the current president of the USA so I wouldn't be surprised if these would be suitable for your Dan Armstrong. Quote
