I just don't get it (never have). I know there's the addage 'it's not the having, it's the getting', but you could purchase several US Precisions for that sort of swag. [/quote] You own a Lull and don't recognise what makes it different to a Fender? I have a Fender Precision and a Fender Jazz and a Mike Lull P and Mike Lull J. I can see exactly where the money went. [/quote] Aah, but there's the rub, Chris, it isn't a Jazz or Precision, it's a Jeff Ament T4. I'll admit the bodyshape shares some similarity visually with a Thunderbird, but beyond that it couldnt be any more different. The design is unique to Mike Lull. I'll admit visually the JAXT4 is Thunderbirdesque, but somewhat lesser so than the regular Lull T4 which, headstock and bolt-on construction aside, is pretty much a direct lift from a 60s Thunderbird. The JAXT4 has a 20% larger body, two-part bridge, reverse headstock and lots of chrome. Even my eight year old nephew pointed out it was different to my Gibsons. [/quote] I own and Lull Precision and a Fender US Std Jazz, and have 2 separate experiences relating to your quote, one that kind of agrees with you and one that doesn't. First experience (disagrees): I've owned some amazing Fender P's, including some light weight ones. However they never balance right for me. Due to severe nerve damage, the slightest bit of neck dive (and I mean ever so slightest) means that the bass becomes unplayable for me standing up. So I had to sell some great basses for that very reason. Some of the Fenders were actually lighter than my current Lull PJ4, but felt more uncomfortable due to the added pressure from their balance. I've had 3 Lull P's, all have been blinding. Ergonomically and tone wise they are worth the money for me, every single penny. The balance doesn't aggravate my nerve damage and they are just so comfortable. I thought my old original 64 P Bass would be the best P I'll ever own, and whilst the sound of that one was very special, the Lull is the best all rounder for me. Second experience (agrees): I pickup up a stunning 2015 US Std Jazz Bass last year which is a great match for me. It's one of those 'better than usual' ones that people often talk about. But when I pick it up, it doesn't feel anywhere near as special as my Lull does. So I took a trip to Bass Direct to check out a Lull Jazz, even though I couldn't afford one so was planning on doing the 0% credit card shuffle. I took my Jazz with me and to my surprise, I wanted to take my Fender back home, and not the Lull. The Lull was clearly an awesome bass, it felt better and had an incredible vibe and air of quality. But my Jazz did everything I needed and I couldn't justify the added expense or change. ***(I don't need to stand up with the Jazz)*** Plus, having owned pre CBS and Custom Shop Jazzes I'm getting a kick out of the fact that this bass is an absolute delight to play and own. So whilst the Lull's feel more special to me, I'd have to go with the fact that they are well worth the extra for the right person. As always, horses for courses. Thing is, I don't have favourites or anything...it plays nicely, sounds great and I confess that I was drawn to it more by the uniqueness of it visually and for all intents, it was a blind buy. My other basses are all nice too. My point being (again) is the price point. Despite me maintaining it's a lovely instrument, is it truly three or four times better than a Gibson?
