Ruiner
Hello, I have an Orange Terror Bass 500 head (purchased from new) with an intermittent on/off switch fault (sometimes it refuses to switch off). Despite having only used it a handful of times (as a back up) it's out of warranty. Orange have quoted me £45.00 + VAT for labour, £20.00 + VAT for shipping (both ways) plus the cost of the part. (Assuming it’s the switch that’s at fault.). However being the thrifty sort that I am, I figured it'd be easier to just have the switch replaced myself. Orange themselves refuse to sell me the part as "it’s a mains switch so is considered to be a safety critical part that means it must be sold to a dealer for their tech’s use." I'm a bit of a noob when it comes to this stuff, but have a friend who's handy with a soldering iron. Does anybody happen to have any idea whether a generic switch would do the job or if only an official replacement switch will do? Thanks
grandad
Looks like one of these with a knurled retaining nut. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/DP-Standard-Mains-Toggle-Switch-1ea-N-O-N-C-2A-250Vac-or-as-SPDT-STS-DPIC-EN02-/142011465574
MoonBassAlpha
I've never really liked the idea of metal mains switches. I'm sure it's irrational, but I prefer to be touching an insulator!
