TheGreek
Just found these on eBay - Flatwound, 40-90 gauge Rotosounds. Anybody know about these? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Rotosound-RS77S-MONEL-FLATWOUND-JAZZ-BASS-STRINGS-40-90-short-scale-/282272849567?hash=item41b8c5de9f:g:gDAAAOSwiDFYPKc0
stingrayPete1977
If you want that dull thumpy flats thing just buy normal Roto rounds and play one gig, job done 3

stingrayPete1977
I don't get through strings really but Rotos die really quickly for me.
Same here, Roto's die within a gig with me. Wish I was joking too. No other strings I've used do this. grandad
I personally like these, tension, feel and tone. They were perfect for the Viola bass I had. However, there are some who equally dislike them. I guess it's personal taste. Edited January 27, 2017 by grandad
I got a free set thrown in with my Fender Jazz, they didn't have my normal strings so I took the free Rotos, I kept them on for a few months even though the zing had gone after the first gig, once I fitted some green ernie balls it was awesome, I think they might still be on it over a year later! stingrayPete1977
I think it's more a case of one mans plenty of zing left is ready for the bin lifeless to another, I've seen people defending how much sizzle their Ashdown amps have when someone suggests they are wooly, then they go on to explain that their P bass with flats has loads of top end with it..... Aidan63
I have tried these on one of my short scale basses and they are awful, feel great, nice tension, BUT they ring a quarter or more of a tone sharp when you pluck them before settling to the correct pitch so you sound like your intonation is out and I started doubting my bass, my technique etc... I am not the only one, read what Scott Whitley has to say about them on his shortscalebass.co.uk web site where he writes about strings I have the RS88 Tru bass black nylon tapewounds on my (home made) fretless short scale and they are better, but if anyone has found a flatwound that will definitely work on a 726mm (28.6", eg Ibanez Mikro, J&D Shorty) short scale bass with good intonation and that old skool sound please post up
Aidan63
Been working through the search list and found this post https://www.basschat.co.uk/topic/288849-finally-found-my-set-up/?tab=comments#comment-3097569 poster was happy with D'Addario ECB81S Chromes, I might get a set after payday to replace the RS77s
