JoeEvans
Might not be the kind of music that you play (or indeed listen to) but the bass on this has got the funk, in an alien kind of way... deepbass5
There are some very good players in the former Yugoslav' countries, great jazz festivals too and bar music to be found, on talking to the bands many of them are working the Croatian coast because that's where the work is and they are in Europe. It also attracts many eastern European muso's as well who can drive down there. I'm booked up for another holiday and will be enjoying their local wine and Jazz again this year enjoyed the clip, have always loved local traditional music - a good find - he knows his way round that bass I must check out these guys when i am there at some point http://www.wreckguitars.hr/
lowdown
I really like the OP Video, very catchy. There are quite a few interesting versions of "Opa Cupa" out there on YouTube, including a nice Klezmer Jazz version. Nenad Vasilic (a Serbian Bassist) is well worth checking out for Baltic Bass, he is a Super Player. http://www.vasilic.com/ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3x2SuEU_umY http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c3eYQwXuCsA http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9vv47Q-Q3-
deepbass5
That first clip was amazing you can actually see the D string oscillate to the frequency of the note as a sine wave up and down the board, the scale length of the double bass adds so much to the sound and harmonics, just cannot be duplicated on a 34" electric, however much we try and boy I have tried most things. great clips thanks for sharing
ivansc
I jammed with a visiting band from the Balkans in France a couple of years ago. Kept me on my toes, but great stuff and like you say a lot more funky than you would ever imagine. I got my start playing Klezmer at Jewish-Yiddish parties as a kid, which helped.
