bass_ferret
As I have said in the sticky (this is so important I am prepared to repeat myself), I found the ER20's most uncomfortable. I am sure I am not alone. The ER moulded plugs can be fitted for IEM. Not sure why the Burpster is talking bollocks? The ER9/15/25 are the same price! There are some cheaper plugs that dont appear to be actually designed for music that are cheaper. If they are not as good as the ER's then they are not better value for money. Who wants sleeping plugs?

I always cleaned them before AND after use so when the itching started I even resorted to a brand new, fresh pair but it was still getting some irritation. It would come on pretty quick and I thought it might be some kind of reaction BUT it was only in one ear. yorks5stringer
Just started using ER20's and have noticed an itching in both ears too, and these were brand new. Previously had no side effects from foam plugs, other than they were not as effective!

Born 2B Mild
Having read this thread, I wandered down to Specsavers this afternoon and sneaked an instant appointment whilst the audiologist was waiting for a late customer. The result is I've had moulds taken and a pair of clear ER15s ordered. £160 on delivery in a month. I don't need any help to keep me broke, but Basschat finds me new ways all the time! The IEMs that U.E produce are very comfortable when worn for very long periods (10+hrs) and mine have done lots of miles in the last 4 years and still sound fresh. I also use U.E blockers for shooting and and have an attenuated pair for big rifles. I have no business interest in U.E. but have had other brands in the past. bass_ferret
I dont mean to be picky and I have already upset Burpster, BUT you guys keep coming up with cheaper alternatives to the ER's that are frankly crap. Look at the attenuation published on their website: CE Mark attenuation data (sorry cant get it to format properly. Freq. (Hz) 63 125 250 500 1k 2k 4k 8k Mean attenuation 13.9 16.1 19 22.7 25 32.2 41.1 36.9 Thats not exactly flat! Great if all you want to hear is bass mind! But I reckon that's probably not too different from any other plug. Low frequencies are always harder to stop. I will put up a review when they arrive, once I have had a band rehearsal (guess in about 2-3 weeks time) PS, £99 excludes VAT and p&P, so all-in cost £122. Still seems tiny versus the cost of real hearing damage and given how much we all spend on gear[/quote] Hmmm, ordered the Proguards on Sunday, they phoned today to offer me a fitting appointment at the end of November or December. bass_ferret
Sorry if I come across as a grumpy old man but I am a grumpy old man and this subject makes me even more grumpy. The reason I am so grumpy is cos I cant remember the last time I had a good nights sleep. And I cant get a good nights sleep cos of the f***ing ringing in my f***ing ears. Like a lot of us, I have ended up with ER25's. The difference between the moulded plugs and foam plugs or ER20's is night and day. The ER's are designed for musicians but I will be the first to admit that £165 is a lot of dosh, so the prospect of getting something as good for a lot less is very tempting. But i've not seen anyone say I have tried ER's and brand X and brand X are as good for half the price. What I have seen is I use these shooting plugs and they are great! So you pony up your £80 and all you can hear is bass. Great. So now your ER25's will cost you £245, or you wont bother and f*** your ears. tonybassplayer
Chuffed to bits with how my hearing test went this morning with only a slightly low reading on the highest pitch at the lowest volume but nothing to worry too much about. Top marks for Specsavers in Brighouse and the lady who tested me as the whole service was superb ( also used them very recently to get my first pair of specs at 49 years old and the service was excellent ) Still getting a little noise but seems to be diminishing since I started a few weeks ago using plugs and being careful etc She recommended getting my ears syringed ( 3/4's full of wax ) before she does the impressions for the custom fits I am going to purchase ( apparently prices from them start at around £80 and go up to about £200 ish ) Tony PS The test was FREE !!!!
