Dan22
Hi everyone, My name is Dan, i am 43 living in Lincolnshire but originate from West Yorkshire. I started playing bass in the early 90's, then life got in the way and i have only just picked it back up again after 18 years or so. My Dad bought me my 1st and only bass which i still own, it's an Aria Pro II Wildcat in red with maple neck and a rosewood fret board, Whilst this is still in very good condition, its gathered some dust over the years!! So i got to thinking, should i take it to shop to be re-set up?? I was thinking starting a fresh with a Squire or maybe a Fender Jazz bass. Is the Aria a decent bass guitar? baldwinbass
Welcome Dan, that's a nice bass. If it hasn't been touched for a while, and you're not confident to set it up yourself, a visit to your local professional could make a world of difference to its playability. tony_m
Hi Dan, Greetings from another Lincolnshire incomer (originally from Lancashire but moved over here last year). I too started playing in the '90s, then had a break until about 2008 - while I hung onto my two original basses (both Japanese Fenders, a '51 P Re-issue and a '60s Jazz Re-issue, neither of which I'll ever part with), it wasn't until I picked up a new Squier VM Jazz that I really got enthused again. Since then (and since joining BC... ) I've acquired both a Squier CV '60s Jazz and CV '60s Precision, and can heartily recommend them. As suggested above, it might be worth getting the Aria checked out and set up professionally then seeing how you get on with that, although I'd be failing in my duty as a BC member if I didn't point out that you *will* suffer frequent attacks of GAS (Gear Acquisition Syndrome) brought on simply by hanging around on here, so don't be surprised if another instrument enters your life pretty soon! Dan22
Thanks chaps, I will take the Aria to a local specialist to have it looked at. I also need an decent small amp too! Tony, Glad to hear you rate the Squire Jazz Bass, i'm going to get one at some point......I'll watch out for the pending Gas attacks and try my best to avoid temptation. Thanks, Dan.
