Great Jazz book

Just finished 'But Beautiful' by Geoff Dyer. Fantastic book that is a must read for anybody remotely interested in jazz.

Seems like a good book. Read some reviews. However, there seems to be some questions about the validity of some of the stories, i.e. did they really happen ?

He says in the preface that he improvises with the facts. It's a great book.

There has to be an element of improvisation.

Agreed, but I think it's best when used with music. If I want fiction, I can always read a novel.

It is a great book. It really picks up the vibe in a way I have not seen in the written word before or since. I keep thinking other books will be the same and they never are

Geoff Dyer is a great writer. I read this when it first came out, about 25 years ago?

He's written a lot of other good books, though none about music in particular.

I have hundreds of Jazz books and this one has passed me by. I guess I should give it a go.
