I do love a big, full on ballad every once in a while - here's an eclectic handful to get the ball rolling:

Ballads are like everything else. Some a stunning, moving and deep, others shallow, pretentious and bland. Generally they ate easier to play but harder to master.

I like a good folk murder ballad.

Any examples? I know Nick Cave interpreted some a while back.

Ultimate guilty pleasure, also made me a small fortune busking it in the early 90s.

Are we including cheesy 80's power ballads? If so, then www.youtube....h?v=b_zHQ6kFuQ0

Good grief - what a voice.

Oof, afraid "Now that we are talking divorce and we're not even married" completely ruined that one for me

Oh, ok.
Don't bother me to be honest. I just love the tune and the terrific singing.

Some history.

The Country scene churns out saccharine ballads profusely but this is one of the best I have heard in years. 'hardy a dry eye in the house'...

Another favourite - the former singer from the Illegal Eagles, Ray Brown, sings this one solo so beautifully:

I loved James Taylor's quote before singing a countryish ballad on his live album. "This is one of those songs that'll make you weep, make your dog weep, make your ROOF leak!"

Yes, that is nice with some great solos.
I particularly like Red Garlands solo on that track.
Actually, the whole album is terrific. :D

Couldn't decide which Bobby Bland song. . . Dreamer, Ain't No Love In The Heart Of The City or Members Only.
