maxoges Posted February 19, 2017 Posted February 19, 2017 I'm building a Stingray 5 clone. I'ts going to get an alder body, Status Graphite neck, Seymour Duncan mm-pickup and a Hipshot bridge. Instead of an onboard preamp I'm going to get a pedal preamp to use between the bass and the amp. Do you have any opinions on what pedal pre will sound closest in sound to the onboard pre? now i have an eden wtdi Quote
JimBobTTD Posted February 19, 2017 Posted February 19, 2017 How about putting the onboard preamp into a pedal case? Quote
maxoges Posted February 19, 2017 Author Posted February 19, 2017 I have thought about doing that. I orded a pedalbox and I have a duncan mm preamp. My electronic skills are not so good, so I rather get a professional made preamp I guess I could give it a try. I have an Eden WTDI . Do you think it will do the trick? Quote
Musicman20 Posted February 20, 2017 Posted February 20, 2017 Actually, I'm almost surprised this hasn't been done before... Quote
obbm Posted February 20, 2017 Posted February 20, 2017 Does your SD pick-up have the phantom coil underneath? If so you will have to rethink any coil-switching because it's part of the pre-amp circuitry. Quote

Rumple Posted February 20, 2017 Posted February 20, 2017 I've got one of these sitting in the bits box and have thought about putting it in to a pedal but I have no idea how to do that exactly as my electronics skills are pretty poor Quote
It has, I've seen them for sale before as cheap ones on ebay and then places like Master Effects have built a few. It's a simple project to do yourself or have someone build one for you. maxoges Posted February 20, 2017 Author Posted February 20, 2017 (edited) I'll give it a try when the pedalcase get's here! I'm about to fit the bridge onto the body. After that I'll a/b the real stingray pre (in my Musicman stingray 5) with the Eden WTDI connected the the Stingray clone. Edited February 20, 2017 by maxoges Quote

andybassdoyle Posted February 21, 2017 Posted February 21, 2017 I'd recommend this, did it a few years ago with an Aguilar obp3. You can very cheaply buy an enclosure to attach the pots and sockets. Very little soldering required and you then have a pre which you can use with any bass. To be far my version is not a 'pedal' in the sense there is no on/off switch, it's always on, but still.... LukeFRC Posted February 21, 2017 Posted February 21, 2017 The way the preamp is designed will work better onboard IMO (or don't use any pots on the bass) Quote
