dmz Posted October 20, 2008 Posted October 20, 2008 Great gig in Cardiff Uni last Thursday - haven't seen them since the Raven Tour to be honest. Indeed my first ever gig was the Stranglers at the Glasgow Apollo - Black and White album - 1979 ? ( with strippers !) Anyhoo, yes - it was a greatest hits fest - but what great tone and melody JJ Burnel has. His Shuker sounded excellent. The great thing was that they were all on form and having a blast. Highly recommended ! Quote

wateroftyne Posted October 21, 2008 Posted October 21, 2008 Baz Warne... I had the pleasure of playing a tune or two with him in Scotland a couple of years ago. Top bloke - very talented. Quote
steve-soar Posted October 21, 2008 Posted October 21, 2008 I saw them in the Summer, supporting Blondie, is Jet back with them yet? Quote
Deep Thought Posted October 21, 2008 Posted October 21, 2008 Friday night, Exeter-can't bloody wait. Since Paul Roberts left and they've reverted to a 4-piece, I've gone back to being the huge Stranglers fan I was when I was a teenager. Good to hear they're sounding good-I was in Burnham-on-sea last week and contemplated nipping over to Cardiff, but I didn't think the missus would be too impressed. Jet was poorly earlier this year and his place was taken by his drum roadie (who apparently did a pretty good job), but he's back on the drum stool for this tour. I have to wonder, though, how much longer he's going to be able to carry on-he's getting on a bit to say the least! Quote
Raggy Posted October 21, 2008 Posted October 21, 2008 Going tomorrow night in Bristol. Cant wait. Quote
Maxcat Posted October 22, 2008 Posted October 22, 2008 Saw them in Reading last night. Top gig. JJ has still got it. I must admit the crowd felt like it was from the cast of Cocoon but still managed to Mosh Quote
Bass_In_Yer_Face Posted October 22, 2008 Posted October 22, 2008 I think they are more like the Stranglers with JJ back on vocal duties and not Paul Roberts. It's a real pity they can't get Hugh Cornwell back on board but I read an interview with JJ that when he phoned him to approach the subject some years ago, he was met with a response of "f*** off"!
