birdy
Just curious on this. Lets assume current second hand values for car(s) and basses. My basses are definately worth more than my car which is an 02 Focus estate. I imagine that a lot of people will be in a similar position? Dubs
Well I've put off buying a car in order to be able to afford a few nice basses Realistically, I'm not going to throw £3k into a heavily depreciating asset that's going to cost me the average GDP of a small African country to legally run for a year when I could put the money into something I'd get more out of (and appreciate a lot more) and be able to cash in on (and get most of my cash back) if times get tough. That’s how I justify it anyway
Kiwi
Definitely. But I've probably lost less depreciation by sinking the money into basses My gigging set up and my car are probably worth about the same.
elom
I drive an M reg Fiat Cinquecento so I would say each of my basses is worth more than my car with the exception of my Harley Benton which is worth about the same!
birdy
The car is one of the ways that I justify spending money on basses. By keeping it going as long as I can and not splashing out on something tasty I can spend the money on gear :-)
BigRedX
No car, a nice range of basses instead. I could do with a car maybe 1 or 2 times a month maximum (although I've managed to do without for the last 31 years). I play my basses every day. Buzz
Yes. Then again, as my car is only worth about £400, it's not exactly a stretch, but that'll soon change as the car isn't really losing value any more and I intend to shift my Aero either to a shop (depending on price) or ebay next summer, and as my other 2 are a VMJ and a T-Bird they'll just about equal out. brummie
If my car is worth less than about £700 - then yes.
marcus bell
umm i have a moped if that counts and its worth about £500 if anyone wants to buy it (hint hint)... and all my bass gear that i have i would say is worth about £2000 ... marcus
EBS_freak
Absolutely. My car has light years on the clock.
Happy Jack
I have three Bass Collections (SB320, SB325 and SB330) and none of them are worth as much as my car.
woodenshirt
Yes...... I've got a company car, but if you take the current value of the vehicle, then the basses still win. Mart.
thedontcarebear
Mine aren't, but my car is a few months old and a Renaultsport 197 with a bunch of extra's. And regarding the thread about buying a car for basses, I buy a car for wanting the car, then would change my rig if it wouldn't fit in! I think my car is more important then my equipment to me. Adrenochrome
No, not even close. Not because I have a very expensive car [Mazda Bongo MPV/camper], but because I have cheap basses.

Deep Thought
Yep-my old Toyota only cost me £650, which is less than I paid for my Precision. I love old bangers-who cares if they get scratched, dented, etc? My wife has Motability cars, which are brand new, and you can guarantee that in no time some arsewipe will hit it/open their door against it/scrape it etc., usually in supermarket car parks. It's happened to every Motability car she's had, often within weeks of getting it. Not a problem with a 12 year old car! Scratch? So what? waynepunkdude
I have 5 basses worth about £700 all together and this is my 'car'
OutToPlayJazz
When it was new two and a half years ago, my car definitely had the edge. Now it has 130,000 miles on it I think the basses have the edge! Rich.
Dr.Dave
According to t'internet our Mondeo is worth £75 - but most of that is in the boot where I put it when stuff falls off. It's done 129k miles and never coughed once It has a proven (!!) top speed of 127mph , that's recent. It's never yet got to £100 at MOT. All of which means my strings are worth more than the car - never mind my basses! It's about to go though , which is a shame as it's such a good running workhorse. So if anybody wants a banger for the price of the remaining tax - give me a shout.
dangerboy
My basses are definitely worth more than my Travelcard. Even if I had a one-year Zone 1&2 travelcard. Which I don't.
tauzero
My collection of basses is worth more than my car but less than my collection of bikes.
woolleydick
Company car - about the same as the basses Company plane - definitely cost more, but worth more? - I have to think about that. No - actually, the basses are definitely more worth it - cheaper to run as well.
Josh
Hells yeah. £6500+, it's more than enough for a near new Peugeot 206.
~tl
I don't own a car. I do own a bass. Enough said.
