Kev
http://www.bassdirec..._thumb_NT5.html ...is it me, or was this bass fitted with side LEDs (switch and extra battery route) which are now removed, leaving holes where the side dots should be? Check the picture that shows that side of the neck and zoom in. I mean, it could just be that the LEDs appear black when off, but they bizarrely look like holes to me! Odd that LEDs haven't been mentioned in the description either. Edited February 22, 2017 by Kev
prowla
I'm not seeing it, though there do appear to be some kind of marks there. Maybe it had tape or stickers at the fret positions?
tom5string
No matter what that is: the price is WAY too high imo

Especially on Warwicks. They had a Streamer 4LX on their Facebook page for a grand the other day! Edited February 23, 2017 by Bigwan
LukeFRC
Zoom in on the fret markers and the one on the right you can see a bit of red in- I think they are red LEDs and having seen a few bass direct bass descriptions I think it's far more likely they forgot to meantion them.
I thought it was weird! Given its 5 minutes down the road from me I could just go and check it. Regarding price, it isn't that bad. You would want to list it for less than £1,200 privately, so £1,500 at a shop is pretty reasonable.

Sparky Mark
As an aside: the Bass direct website always expands to an unusable degree when I try to view using my Samsung smartphone. Anyone know a fix?

They may not be Mark's prices If I had to guess, the Thumb would be a trade-in at that kind of price (realistic), whereas that LX may well have been a commission sale, where the seller needs to get their 20% commission back somehow

Dazed
Seems a bit overpriced to me, but I'm a tight northerner Nice Thumb, and yes looks likely to have had LEDs at some point. Worth a phone to check as the descriptions are often just lifted off the net for their ads. 'Wick withdrawal Kev?
Dazed
I just noticed on the front page of the ad (on 2nd hand/used) page it does state LEDs, but not in the description when you open that page.
ZilchWoolham
I haven't really inspected a Warwick all that carefully before, but I think I'm now starting to understand the appeal. The craftsmanship is very impressive. From the front it looks like a one piece body, yet from the back you can see it's a neck through. Most brands would usually settle for a neck and two wings, occasionally capped with another fancy slice of wood. This seems to me like they've scooped out the back to fit the neck, leaving the top intact, and it looks so seamless. I can't remember when I last saw a bass that looked so much like one unified piece. Even the way the fretboard tapers off onto the body is incredibly smooth. Bloody gorgeous that is!
what I like them, or the old ones, is you get a feeling that the design and the woods are part of the same. The woods and construction methods have been chosen for certain sonic or visual reasons and that's why they look the way they do. Even body shapes are partly down to the weights of the woods I think. Form following function - appeals to the designer in me

Treb
IIRC the older Warwick bodies were cut into three pieces, two side pieces and a center piece. The center piece had its back half removed, onto which the neck was glued. Then the two separately shaped sides were glued back on the neck+centerpiece. Result: a neck thru construction that's hidden from the front.
goingdownslow
The side 'lights' on my Sims fitted Leds are only fibre optic.
andytoad
This is back at Bassdirect, I was quite interested last time before it went. Do you reckon its still the slim neck era? Id beinterested to see if the LEDs could be added back in, as my onstage eyesight is getting a little dodgy under stage lights.
I have a '89 one of these. It looks similar apart from the older ones had carved back of the head stock. I have a '91 stage 2 and that is similar neck like on my Thumb. It is interesting how big the battery compartment is. Looks double to my two '89 Thumbs so I would be interested to know if this is 18v. Dazed
The double battery box is usually for LEDs.
