gary mac
Wal Custom 1981. Complete with original hardcase. I’m pretty sure that I will end up regretting this decision but having recently got back into guitar playing and having made an expensive purchase, I’ve decided to sell my lovely Wal. A very attractive looking instrument, with Padauk facings and a Mahogany core. Signed off by Pete (the fish). A great example and not overly heavy, at around 10lbs 10oz. I have recently completed restoring this bass, as when I got it, it was very much in need of some TLC. It sounded in fine form but wasn’t looking so good. A previous owner had applied some sort of brush on finish that I just couldn’t live with. I therefore removed it and after much preparation, applied the finish that you can see in the photos. All hardware and electrics function as they should. I have replaced the bridge screws and the little domed marker studs set into the body, adjacent to the control knobs. These items were all purchased from Wal Headquarters. Frets are still good, as is the board. There are signs of use as to be expected with an instrument of this age but everything works as it should. Truss rod functions perfectly. The pre amp is a masterpiece and gives so many tonal options. This Wal has the volume control with a built in on/off and I noticed at rehearsal a few nights back, that strangely, it has a bit of buzz when the switch is in the off position, it disappears as soon as it is switched on and the volume turned up. Currently strung with a nice new set of DR Fat Beams 45-105. The case is in good shape, although one catch is faulty, it works but has to helped along a little. My price is £3,550 Payment by bank transfer or cash on collection (Hertfordshire). Although I would prefer collection, I will post if necessary but it will be with a courier of my choice and fully insured. If you require this let me know and I will get a price. If any additional photos or info is required, just let me know.

silverfoxnik
Beautiful example! I've always especially liked the Custom models with a PB serial number for some reason; they have an additional mystique to them. GLWTS, but I suspect as others have already said, you may end up regretting it.
spuggy9
What exactly are the controls ? Thank you. It's beautiful !
NickA
Usually 1. A master volume (pull out for extra high fr.equency), 2. Pan between bridge and neck pickup 3&4, plus a low pass filter for each individual pickup ( pull out to change the "q" of the filter) .. this one has an on / off tho, so may be a little different from mine! That "q factor" control is a strange thing as it boosts frequencies close to the low pass frequency and shifts the phase of the higher frequencies from that pickup. gives some strange effects no other bass I know of can manage .. but use sparingly! NickA
PS £3550 is a VERY fair price, especially with original case. Bass Direct would be asking £ 5k or so.
