Hi does anyone know of any good double bass luthiers in Edinburgh? The guy everyone used to swear by in Portabello has now retired and stringers don't really have anyone that specialises in DB. Chantal Van Lierop in Glasgow is meant to me excellent but it may mean two trips through to Glasgow.. Got an old bass has some rattles that need to be sorted!

Thanks

Phil

I have used Stringers in the past. They deal with all types of acoustic stringed instruments and know what they are talking about. In York Place.

It was a few years ago, but I didn't find Stringers particularly welcoming when enquiring about double bass repairs. The last time I needed any work on my bass I went to Bill Kelday near Stirling who seems very good, but if anything that's a little more of a drive than Glasgow. It's a nice bit of the country to drive through on a sunny spring day though!

I have used John Wilkinson, and so has my tutor. My needs were simple (general setup, string height adjustment, pin replacement), but he delivered and at a reasonable price.

Again just for reference but Dave Grant in Dunfermline is excellent musical engineering , and by that I mean we see and hear the bass and he sees the structural aspects . Did a great job on my dbl bass - search Facebook for Guitarman Dave Grant or call him on 07817244542

One of the people that used to work for stringers is a guy called McHugh (can’t mind first name). He now works out of a workshop in Alloa. It is a small place so he doesn’t encourage DBs although he has done a couple of set ups for me
