simontdo
Another bass for sale. I need to thin out the herd. This P bass is totally original; it has not been messed with in any way. The serial No is S9, with a matching serial number in the neck pocket. Also in the neck pocket is the a date sticker reading 26th October '81. Its a Scorpio! There is some wear in the paintwork that can be seen in the photos, but otherwise, the condition is exceptional. The pickups and pots look original (although the dates on the pots are obscured by solder), the frets have hardly any wear. It also comes with the original pickup covers. It plays extremely well, the neck is straight and the truss rod works as it should. Weight is 9.9 lbs. Pretty light for a late 70s Precision! More pics here http://s1104.photobu...es/79%20P/story It does not have an original case, but I have an old case I can provide if required. I'm based in Bournemouth, if anyone would like to come and look and have a play Thanks for looking Simon Edited March 3, 2017 by simontdo
Bass_Guardian
I may be missing something but what makes this bass 1979 if it's stamped 1981?
simontdo
The serial number on the head-stock starts S9. As a rough guide this would indicate it is manufactured in '79. (S=seventies, E=eighties etc)
Guest BassKS
Transition era. There were a lot of parts on the shop floor from the 70s that were assembled later on.
Handwired
If it's all factory original then it's birth date can't be earlier than it's latest date stamp.
Burns-bass
As far as I can see the seller here isn't trying to claim this is a 79' bass, it's just people would query the serial number and any potential discrepancies. Looks like a lovely bass to me.
cameltoe
If it's all factory original then it's birth date can't be earlier than it's latest date stamp.
But it's birth date can be later than its serial number. S9 = 79. So, possibly '79 parts assembled in '81. Not that unusual.
