Fender Performer? If the London Rubber Company had gone legal it could've been a 'Nocaster' scenario all over again...

How about this turd on a stick as modeled by Mr Lomenzo?

I don't think there's a headstock shape i really like except for the Ibanez Musician style (but that only works with 4 strings) or the Stingray types without that big ball of wood in the top like Fenders (i do love 4+1 configs and really hate the Fender 5-in-line style). But i just posted to remind all you folks of this one:

Still reminds me of Peppa Pig.

I think some of my least favourite headstocks are the ones where the designers were trying to make them look like the Fender outline, but slightly changed it a bit. Not quite enough to look like the idea was ever any more than a sketch before it went to production.

I agree. Sire's are horrible and Moollon's are AWFUL!

The headstock shape is pretty much the only bit of the Sire V7 that I don't like. Luckily the rest of the bass is so superb that I can easily overlook it.

Oh, the Fender Performer. LOVE the body shape. It should have been a massive hit.

I think the Kramer headstock is absolutely fantastic, it's distinctive, well-proportioned, compact and shiny! What's not to like?

Even that Fender is ok with me, it has a kind of Bauhaus functionality. If these are the worst you can come up with, you're really not trying! :)

I actually prefer that to the headstock that the make is now stuck with. When I looked it up it appears that Fender had tried to get out of that design rut but only for a couple of years;

"The Fender Performer was an electric bass guitar released in 1985 and discontinued in 1987, assembled in the United States and Japan. The Performer was also available as an electric guitar."

I suppose there is something to be said for following the crowd but it didn't work for me. At the end of the day, there is still a Fender at the other end of the fretboard.

You're welcome.

Let's not forget this monstrosity on an otherwise very nice looking instrument:

It's a minimalist classic.

Nice basses too, I came within a whisker of buying one in the early 90s.

I can't comment on the otherwise bit. Have you a photo of that too please? Maybe it's a well known brand but I don't get out much.

Let's not overlook a superb example of design brain-fartery (body included).

Isn't that what the americans call "adding lightness"?

It's a Laurus. Federico Malaman can be seen playing one in a lot of his videos.

Many thanks. In context, I could put up with it's aesthetics, not sure about neck dive though. You have to take that as coming from someone who favours headless instruments.

Considering it could be headless as well, there really is no excuse for such a hideous head.

I really like the body aesthetics though.

They're great basses. Played quite a few but never actually owned one.
I had one in 1983/84 and managed to find the same model I had in the 80's last year in America. I'd been looking for one for a few years purely for nostalgia sake but couldn't find one, they have great sustain but a bit on the heavy side. Here it is
