Recommended Posts

Hello everyone

Up for sale is my Alesis 3630 Compressor/limiter with gate (rrp £69) and Microverb 4 (rrp £85) both latest spec unit from Alesis.

Both units are are excellent new and pro spec components (still have display covers on) and were bought six months ago from Turnkey,London and have had minimal use.

I'm using new software for editing now so these rack items are surplus to requirements.

Both in excellent boxed condition, specs here :-
is that compressor any good for live bass use or just studio?
I use mine exclusively for Live work, and I've had nothing but positive comments on the difference it makes. :)
i read a review sayin that it actually wasnt really suited to bass at all, and it distorts quite easily, does this happen?? or did the person just have a dodgy one
Picked one up from Warwickhunt about 6 months ago, with the intention of getting a dedicated bass pedal once I had some spare cash. I'd agree with the above coment, but I'd still say it's an excellent compressor. It's obviously designed for nearly any audio signal possible, so it is easy to turn the gain up past distortion (I normaly run the gain on 4/10, anything higher starts overloading the input stage of my amp). It's probably that high for compressing gnat farts for Attenbrough's sound guy. I'm not slagging it off though, quite the opposite, I have no intention of replacing it, and if it dies I'm gonna be looking for a new one. The point is that it doesn't hold your hand and protect you from making stupid choices with the dials. that can be seen as a bad thing, but the flip side is that you get a massive choice, from hardly detectable to so much that you just get a solid wall of tone, with no dynamics at all.

Plus it's got a deacent noise gate thrown in aswell.
And it's 2 channel, so with a sidechain insert and an eq or two you can turn it into a multicomp. (that's my plan anyway  )

[Edit] Oh, just remembered - bin the Alesis power suply though. I got it just as I was moving to norway. Whilst not a massive problem, it was a bit noisy, about as noisy as my zoom 506. Eventually I replaced it with a £5 supply with EU plug. no noise any more - Result :) [/Edit]
