The beauty of having an oil finish is you can easily repair an oil finish by sweating out dings and sanding rough patches and re-oiling. So if you want to do the gems you can. IMHO the appearance of the lead shot marks is fine. It looks like recycled wood. That's fine with me. Wishbass make a living using recycled wood.

I got a cracker Idea today, I will be putting in 2 spent bullet cartridges that will really enhance the character....

My God that looks very similar to mine except for the pickups. You must have great patience for sanding as I gave up when it came to the awkward bits. Mine is now finished and Im pleased that some of the little dents and residue of the old finish
are still present and give it a sort of aged look. All my mates think it looks great

I found that spraying the wood with water & leaving it to soak between sanding helped to enhance the grain.
Then several coats of Danish, followed by a few coats of wax.

Nice work xgxgs, looks like you put in a lot of work on the sanding, I found the inner horns quite difficult but it pays to take your time.
The water idea is good and I will bear that in mind the next time I do a project like this.

Your finished bass looks awesome and much better than the painted job, hard to beat natural wood.

It took a good few weeks from start to finish. My original intention was to dye the wood blue & silver leaf part of the body, but when I saw the wood, I changed my mind. Though it still might happen at a later date.
