EssentialTension
I'll be the pissed bloke in a Hansen Brothers t-shirt down the front during Saxon, crying to & singing all the old classics, ignoring anything after 1986 and alternately shouting 'Where's Dobby?' and 'Bass solo' repeatedly 'till it all comes on top. See you there EDIT: Fat, pissed bloke.
Haven't decided what I'm wearing yet. Given the people I'm going with, if the last time is anything to go by, I'll be the one stood in a small crowd at the bar even when the bands are on - except when we are outside smoking. yorks5stringer
Aimee Mann was excellent last night, the bassist, and her album producer Paul Bryan played a Vox Apollo bass ( semi with 1 cutaway and tear drop headstock) and an old slab P (Telecaster) bass with an extra Jazz pickup near the bridge. Some nice playing, lots of slides and swoops up and down the neck. He made it look very effortless and laid back.

Sad, i've seen so many bands there over the last couple of decades. Nice size too.

Guest
Counting Crows, Brighton, 11th Dec Silverfox, you around?
That should be a good gig, didn't realize they were touring over here. Next gig for myself should be Alabama 3 in oxford, i took my wife the last time they played and was shocked at how good they are live. That said i may get tickets for The rifles at the end of November.

Good gig to go to, pain to work in, the load in is via a motor winch upstage right. The Astoria is on the site of an old pickle factory y'know.. Telebass
..., don't really like watching live music anymore.
Me either...odd that, used to love it. But now, all I want to do is PLAY it, not WATCH it. Shame, I would probably learn from it. I also don't actually sit and listen to music much, either. Possibly a hangover from the 17 years off I took from music, completely. No basses, no CDs, no going down the pub, even. When I first gotback into it, someone said about doing 'Sweet Child O'Mine', and I'd never heard of it... Embarrasing! Going to the blues night at Tavistock Wharf next week, though...must put oneself about a bit more!

Buzz
[s]An acoustic(ish) night with a load of bands/artists hosted by Uni Portsmouth School of Rock around 8pm. Should be a good gig.[/s] When your housemates ask you if you want dinner cooked and you say no, if they offer to move their cooking plans forward to accomdate you, tactfully tell them to piss off and get your own food, otherwise you find that it won't happen and you'll have missed the chance to go and get seating at quite a busy gig, therefore meaning there's no point going. Very accomplished South African bass player (couldn't catch his name despite being referenced several times, sorry about that). Afrobeat meets John Entwistle, maybe. BassMunkee
So Airbourne killed - highly recommended. Support was - Stone Gods, who were ace, and some Canadian band called sound and fury - they weren't bad either. A good night in all. Fortnight's time - Sigur Ros then Feeder, then Motorhead after that, the Counting Crows in December.
