lojo
After becoming increasing frustrated with not being able to replicate the sounds of some of our 80s synth based bass songs on the bass guitar , I've been practicing keys bass. This Saturday will be my first proper outing and I'll play a mixture of bass guitar and keys synth bass. Can't wait , but it's like first gig nerves I haven't experienced for 30 years Anyone else do this ?
Jakester
Good luck! I've only ever done this once, and I realised half way though one tune I'd been playing the synth riff half a tone up to where it should have been (god knows how I didn't realise from finger positions!) but couldn't hear it properly. No one seemed to notice though! 😅

juliusmonk
I am completely unable to play keys bass consistently for more than 4 measures, so hats off to you!
SpondonBassed
Good luck. Nice to see a bassist rounding off the skills.

darkandrew
Good luck. It's funny but that's kind of how I got into playing bass but in reverse - started out playing keys and after playing quite a lot of synth-bass parts, took up playing the real thing. The two fit quite well together and even today I will often switch between synth or electric bass depending on how I feel. lojo
Thanks everyone It's a Korg Triton , its way to big but I borrowed it from our keyboard player who doesn't play it anymore and I'm used to it Want to play something smaller like a Novation , but I need a few weeks I think to sort this and no time before sat to get used to anything else
casapete
Did this when I couldn't play bass guitar after an injury. Really weird at first, wondering what to do with the other hand and also being unable to wander around the stage whilst playing. Nice not having to wear the instrument though, and not needing to keep checking the tuning. Enjoy, you'll be fine.

lojo
This went well , but my only issue was I'd not considered my fancy dress . I had a boy George type hat on (we dress up 80s) and the plan was to whip of the bass but it on the stand hit the a/b switch and play there was no delay in changing instruments. The strap wouldn't go over the hat without pulling it off. Another than that love it , really need to find a smaller keyboard synth now as I'll do this everytime
kevin_lindsay
I too have always loved bass synth sounds. I've spend thousands of pounds on various effects over the years attempting to approximate the sounds via my bass guitar. However, I've never Neen completely satisfied with the results. So, I have now bought this - Moog Little Phatty Stage II! I'll have to do some serious practice at home before unleashing my noise making on the public! lojo
Thats Cool I got on much better and quicker than I thought, and the band would not have let me get away with loose playing so that was a vote of confidence when they ok'd me finally doing it . First songs I did where Ain't Nobody , Like a Virgin & Don't you want me
