NancyJohnson Posted March 8, 2017 Posted March 8, 2017 Well this should get your juices flowing. Skip past all the blah-blah-blah and start reading from paragraph #5. TimR Posted March 8, 2017 Posted March 8, 2017 Nice. It's a shame both bands weren't inducted sooner. They're both very niche though. Quote
spectoremg Posted March 8, 2017 Posted March 8, 2017 Geddy playing Roundabout!!! He'll not need his Jazz. Quote
bazzbass Posted March 9, 2017 Posted March 9, 2017 disgusted that the RRHoF waited til Chris died before inducting this legendary band who affected the sound of music since the late 60s ! tossers what the f do they know? Hip Hoppers got in before Yes.......... I'm guessing the bass community will implode at the magnificence of Geddy playing Roundabout..... Quote
Conan Posted March 9, 2017 Posted March 9, 2017 Dream come true for Geddy? Although the information in the article is contradictory regarding his participation... still, if Anderson says he will be joining them then that sounds pretty certain Quote
NancyJohnson Posted March 9, 2017 Author Posted March 9, 2017 Years ago in retirement, and alongside his bowler hat duties at Ascot Racecourse, my father in law took a job hand delivering, door knocking and verifying electoral roll documents on Wentworth. I suppose as a keen golfer he was drawn to the estate generally, enjoyed the walking and the occasional running into (the golfing fraternity) residents (Faldo etc.). Via me, he knew who Chris Squire was (I used to look at his visit list) and he met him a a couple of times over the years, saying he was always rushing off somewhere, but came over as a thoroughly decent bloke. What you want to hear I suppose. Quote

visog Posted March 10, 2017 Posted March 10, 2017 Yes this would have been great if it happened... but its been clarified Geddy and Alex are just inducting them. Quote

visog Posted April 8, 2017 Posted April 8, 2017 Well apparently it happened! Geddy played with Yes but he didn't use the Rick!!! Interview here but I've not seen any footage of the playing yet: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X3fiIbs4fQk Quote
visog Posted April 8, 2017 Posted April 8, 2017 (edited) Oh wait... here's some unofficial footage Ged and Yes whoop! And he sounds great https://www.youtube....h?v=bfhI6nBZOLc Rest of Yes aren't really acknowledging him to much though! spectoremg Posted April 8, 2017 Posted April 8, 2017 WTF's Trevor Rabin doing there! Slightly trickier bass line done finger style I think. Well done Geddy. Quote
ezbass Posted April 8, 2017 Posted April 8, 2017 Teddy sounded good to me, not a million miles from Chris' tone. More evidence to support the 'it's in the fingers' argument, although I think amplification has a fair bit to do with it too (I'm guessing GL was using his SansAmp setup, configured to SVT). Quote
Kevin Dean Posted April 8, 2017 Posted April 8, 2017 I know it's Because Chris had fallen out with certain people . Quote

visog Posted April 8, 2017 Posted April 8, 2017 Apparently the R&RHoF are inducting the 'Union' line-up which was Yes-West and ABWH so if you go with their logic, TR should be there. The question is where is Tony Kaye? Anywho, on a bass related matter, who'd have thought that a turquoise Jazz would be more Rick than a Rick. My guess is that Geddy felt this matched the tone best of Chris Squire's heavily modified Rick. Whilst I'd have loved Geddy to play some righteous Rick, he made a very respectful tribute on a great sounding Jazz. Quote
spectoremg Posted April 8, 2017 Posted April 8, 2017 (edited) Chris striking with a pick and following through with his thumbnail on a Rick and Geddy's finger style on a Jazz. Of course it's all in the fingerzzzz.... Was Bill Bruford there? Edited April 8, 2017 by spectoremg Quote
visog Posted April 8, 2017 Posted April 8, 2017 Yes - he's on the interview footage but I've not seen him on the performance vids. Consistent with his retirement from public performance. Quote
