BassApprentice
I'm not gigging and I need some cash so am thinking of downsizing my rig quite drastically. I have a Bass Buddy and it says it has enough oomph to power a cabinet, has anyone done this? What size of cabinet do you reckon the wee Buddy could power or any recommendations for cabs to do this? Ta! Edited March 9, 2017 by BassApprentice
franzbassist
And I quote: "Has 10w built in amplifier to drive a small 8 ohm cab". Not sure that's going to get you very far?
BassApprentice
Possibly not, was just seeing if anyone has done this
markstuk
If only they were 1960's valve watts..😂
Beedster
I've done this and it'll do for practice but is not much use beyond that. Might be more useful with a very efficient cab?

No lust in Jazz
I've used a bass buddy to drive a Phil Jones powered cab - which works really well. If you were looking to have a physically small rig I'd buy a combo just to save dicking around with cables and power supplies
Happy Jack
I've used a Bass Buddy through a Barefaced Midget (Gen 1) as a practice rig, and it's excellent. I doubt it would be much use at a rehearsal. At a gig, that mini-rig would work in a situation where you were going through the PA but needed some close-up monitor sound, but there are easier ways of achieving that. pete.young
I have a briefcase, which is basically a bass buddy with a 100W power amp and 2 5" speakers. It's barely loud enough for a rehearsal with a quiet drummer. Edited March 9, 2017 by pete.young
badboy1984
Get a small decent combo when downsizing?

[/quote] Don't rule out the TC Electronic BG250 combos. These are available with either 1x15, 1x12, 2x10 or 2x8 speakers. I have the 208 or 2x8 and its a fantastic little combo that works great for rehearsing and could easily gig with PA support.

Will need to try and find somewhere with both to A/B them
badboy1984
The TC combo is fantastic for money. If my SWR workingman 10 is broke and need replacing, I most likely will a TC combo for power and weight.
