J&D P bass opinions

Hi All
After a long lay off, I'm wanting to start playing bass again. I've been looking at a few lower end basses and came across these.
I know the jazz bass by the same company get a lot of positive reviews and just wondered if anybody had tried the P bass?
Spec wise it looks like they are on par with the squire affinity range (possibly squire VM too). I'm only going to be playing along to records and learning some new songs so I'm not looking to spend to much.
