I saw this in a catalog. So what, it's four string fretted with E, A, D fretless? I think a double neck would be less clumsy. Seems like a novelty. Wonder how wide that neck is? Make a great boat anchor.

That's too much for me!

My old bass teacher had a 4 string bass where the neck was fretless after the 7th fret. Never seen another like it.

Sounds logical to me to save money on fret wire. :) Doesn't doctrine dictate that "thou shalt not venture above the 5th or the infidel shall feel the wrath" ? :D Right then....I'm off back to the "flat earth" thread...... ;)

Ibanez had a similar thing going on a few years back.
Maybe the Six string didn't catch on, so they upped the game with a seven string. :D

Just cannot see what need there is for this bass. Surely a niche within a niche within a niche!
As said above I think a dual neck would be a less clumsy solution

I for one quite liked the Ashula I played at the Ibanez event. very nice indeed but definitely not a "thumb around the neck" bass. Think of it as two different instruments and it really isn't difficult to play either.
