Grangur
Hey Jez, this SS is amazing. It's great to see your work as always. Interesting we should both have wives with a habit of using similar terminology for the workshop. Mine keeps calling it a "conservatory", or "lounge". Where DO they get these odd ideas? Oopsdabassist
I'm not usually a fan of natural wood basses, but that is utterly gorgeous...I could stare at the pics for hours.......shame its a short scale otherwise I'd be tempted to make you an offer for it! Lovely photos btw
W1_Pro
Thats a beautiful job Jez. As a design it's very easy on the eye as well. Lovely!

Norris
Having played this bass today at the bash... just wow! As you said some slightly heavier strings would make it even better. Fantastic attention to detail on all of your builds (there was a whole stack of them!)
Harryburke14
It's even better in person than on the screen, I must say.
Joebethell
Had a quick dabble on this little beauty at the MBB today. Cracking bass

Lee-Man
Had fun with this today (as did my lad). Very cool bass. Was very impressed.
Jabba_the_gut
Thanks for all the positive comments, really appreciated. This bass was a bit of an experiment that has turned out better than I anticipated. I've changed the strings for something just a little heavier and, from the short go I've had with it, feels better. I'm also really chuffed how it sounds, was great to see it being played by folk much better than me and to hear what it can actually sound like!! TheGreek
Love how all the wood tones compliment each other - other builders take note.
honza992
This looks really great. Very clean precise work. Do you mind if I ask what finishing oil you used, and what technique you used to apply it? I'm finding finishing a nightmare....

The finish on this was Osmo oil (can't remember which one off the top of my head but I'll find out and let you know). No technique as such; wipe it on, leave for a few minutes, wipe it off, leave to dry, light sand with very fine paper and repeat. This is the first time I had used it and I'm really pleased with how it turned out and how easy it was to use. The only thing to consider is that is does darken the wood a bit but that was fine for this build. Cheers Jez

sblueplanet
I keep coming back to look at this. Love the finish. Just superb.
Norris
My current builds are lacquered but I'm definitely going to use oil on the next one - it seems a lot easier to get a good finish. Beautiful work Jez
TheGreek
I think Andy used a similar finish on my Psilos bass - feels lovely to play. I wouldn't consider anything else.
Jabba_the_gut
I'm using the same woods on my current build and will use the same finish. Hopefully it will turn out as nice! Thanks for all the positive comments - very much appreciated. Cheers Jez

I'm going to start doing some tests.... It looks like you didn't grain fill the mahogany? Did the oil fill the grain, or does it have that nice grainy feel to it? Sand to 320 or so before starting? One coat per day? Edited September 14, 2017 by honza992
