Happy Jack
Were it not for the fact that you specified 'slap', I'd be all over this. I never learned to play slap DB and I'm too old now - that stuff is arthritis on a stick.

Marty Forrer
Happy Jack... you're never too old. I picked up the upright at 41. After playing jazz, swing, Irish etc, I joined a rockabilly band at 56 and learnt to slap. I was in that band for 9 years. At 69, I have my own rock n roll band that only requires slapping on a few Bill Haley numbers (Marty's Juke Joint on farcebook) but it's good to keep my hand in. Fact is that most rockabilly bands overdo the slap thing. A whole night of slap gets pretty boring for me anyway. I'd rather it were used only on songs where it enhances the song. [/quote] Hey, that's encouraging, I'm 41 and just trying out upright. I pretty much only want to play rockabilly, rock and roll and blues though. Its tough going but it seems to be beneficial for my electric playing too. Unfortunately I'm too far away to be of any help to Jennifer but its the sort of thing it would be great to have a crack at. I am with Marty, a little can be very effective but goes a long way, especially if there is a drummer. Jack you are never too old you just need lighter strings and it will keep the arthritis at bay! Check out Rameau, Lully and the Couperins (Louis and Francois).
Happy Jack
Lully and the Couperins? Yeah, I caught their gig at The Tuileries back when they still had good music there.
