Saved
I am building a 5 string bass, with j-pickups. The problem is that both neck and bridge are for 64mm string spacing.I find this to narrow. Is there many basses with this string spacing? Is 16mm string-string on the pickup
markstuk
My Jazz 5 is even narrower - (string centre to string centre distances) nut - 36mm, neck PU 59mm, bridge PU 62mm, Saddle 66mm Edited March 15, 2017 by markstuk
Saved
My other 5string is 36mm nut and 75 bridge saddle.I take all the distances from it.So since i dont mind to buy new pickups for this building,i will use narrower bridge spacing. Thank you
Marc S
I'm really a 4 string player. But one of the reasons I'm not quite so comfortable with 5's, is that I find the string spacing too narrow. I do like to be able to get my fingers in between strings, and "dig in" if / when I want to. So I know where you're coming from, re narrow string spacing. Some players don't seem at all bothered, or seem comfortable with narrower spacing, but it's not for me.... The trade off, of course, is that if you space the strings further apart, you end up with quite a wide neck (at least at the base, even if the neck is very markedly tapered) And I don't like the neck to be too wide either. So I guess there's just no satisfying me, really Lol My Yamaha 5'er is around 18mm between string centres. Think I'd struggle with any less... markstuk
Just measured my newish Lakland Bob Glaub P 5 bass.. 38 mm at nut (string centre to string centre) and 75 mm at the saddles - I don't really notice any difference when I'm switching between this and the jazz.. Saved
The nut width have nothing to do with bridge width.Imagine a bass with nut wider than the bridge. Is it possible, but its useless
