BassApprentice Posted March 17, 2017 Posted March 17, 2017 Laney have added a 500 watt head and a 500 watt 1x15 combo to the Richter series, I have fond memories of my Richter combo from when I was in my bands at High School. Quite intrigued by the 500 watt head http://www.laney.co.uk/products/r500h/ Quote
Beer of the Bass Posted March 17, 2017 Posted March 17, 2017 The feature set looks like a lot of '90s amps, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Since their Nexus amps mention being Class-D in the specs and this one doesn't say anything about it, I wonder what sort of power amp they're using? It looks like it's less than £300 too. Quote
BassApprentice Posted March 17, 2017 Author Posted March 17, 2017 (edited) NoTreble say it is also class D. If it is, could be a solid back-up head http://www.notreble....-and-combo-amp/ Edited March 17, 2017 by BassApprentice Quote

I noticed that the R500H doesn't use that phrase, though the review above suggests class-d. Not that it matters especially (IMO), but I know there are some on here who look for class ab amps. Quote
Jack Posted March 20, 2017 Posted March 20, 2017 £281 on baxshop. If it's 500W and 4.2kg it has to be class d surely? How heavy is something like a handbox or a walkabout? Quote
Graham Posted March 20, 2017 Posted March 20, 2017 My first serious amp was one of their 1x15 R4 combos, good no-frills amp that got the job done; I found that bypassing the pre-amp by running through a Sansamp direct into the FX return turned it into a good sounding amp Quote
BassApprentice Posted June 22, 2017 Author Posted June 22, 2017 Just wondering if anyone has seen/heard/tried one of the new Richter range yet? Quote
Danguitarbass Posted March 30, 2018 Posted March 30, 2018 I've always liked Laney stuff for both guitar and bass, and recently went back to their gear for bass after a few years using Ashdown dual tube series. My main gig rig is now a Laney R500H and two R410 cabs, and I'm more than happy with it. Works well for me and gets the sound I'm after, I find there's so much volume and headroom to spare even playing with a very loud drummer It's barely breaking a sweat live, immense ability to fill a venue with bass and the tone is more my cuppa tea than the Ashdown too :-) I definitely like the new Richter series now! 1 Quote
Al Krow Posted March 31, 2018 Posted March 31, 2018 Love the fact that this is a British brand that's been around for over 50 years, and from the West Midlands too (ok I'll have to 'fess some bias, having grown up there!) Really like that the R500H has a 10 band EQ starting at 30Hz (which if you wanted to cut right there gives you a defacto HPF) and then going through to 8kHz TWO four 10s!! Yup, I can see why you have headroom to spare Quote

mati_motorloco Posted August 13, 2018 Posted August 13, 2018 is the R500H good for live gigs? I need it to be LOUD! I playe drop D stoner/doom, thanks! Quote
Danguitarbass Posted August 29, 2018 Posted August 29, 2018 (edited) I can verify the R500H looks cool with its blue backlighting and sounds awesome onstage, drop D no sweat at all, it handles my low B through 2 R410 cabs no problem 😎 Edited August 31, 2018 by Danguitarbass Quote

Hope it's ok to get your input. Are you still using this rig?, What are your thoughts after more prolonged use? Also is the fan very loud? I have a Peavey Minimax which is great, but I need something that runs more quietly for something I'm playing in. Cheers! 1 Quote
EmpInfNed Posted July 26, 2022 Posted July 26, 2022 (edited) Me too: I'd like to know if the fan of this amp (R500h head) is always on and if the fan noise is loud or not? Anyone has the answer? Thanx Edited July 26, 2022 by EmpInfNed Quote
