The GroovyPlucker
Just acquired a Fender 50's Precision Bass MIM, 2015/6 ish model, still current I believe, anyhow, looking at turning it a bit Steve Harris, without paying the money for the beautiful MIJ version, which I owned previously. So Baddas or the like bridge, but probably bassass, and new pups. Reading online (too much info) always loved the seymour duncan, some are saying the spb 3 are too bassey, some say the dimarzio are the best, as they do about the fralin, the latter being the most expensive so maybe not an option. Looking for a great Rawk sound for a classic rock covers band, you're educated and experienced thoughts would be welcome, Cheers Mark Edited March 19, 2017 by The GroovyPlucker
dannybuoy
The best sounding P I ever played was a Classic 50s with the stock pickup!
The GroovyPlucker
will be trying her natural when she comes, but maybe she's comes when she's on top.........
Lozz196
If I`m successful I`ll have a new Precision incoming that has a Steve Harris pickup in it, which I`ll be looking to offload.
Paul S
Depends entirely upon the sound you want, really. For me it is the Fender Original but others prefer Seymour Duncan 1/4lb er, which I find way too harsh. It is all so very subjective. Jack
I spent a while auditioning them to try and find a powerful, forward one for a rock band and I ended up with the Dimarzio Will Power. YMMV.
The GroovyPlucker
Thanks for your thoughts folks, have got a set of SPBII's, but might jump into the Dimarzio next time as I'm hearing good reports
Lozz196
Def worth a look at the Seymour Duncan Steve Harris ones as well. My intention was to offload them, prior to getting the bass and hearing them, now I`m not quite so sure. Final decision will be made when I change strings but at the moment they are making a dead set of Fender nickel rounds sound great, and I usually hate those strings. The GroovyPlucker
Thanks for that LewisK, the 2nd edition is surely the best looking, can't stand West Ham, sure it'll put a lot of people off, unless it's removable, also that aerodyne style edged body's not for everyone....
