What’s the reason for swapping the bodies, @AndyTravis? (apologies if it was mentioned 15 pages back!)

Just wanted the 350 to have a fretted neck, and the 300 to be fretless.

have asked for prices, if it’s stupid - I’ll can the idea.

Edit - I didn’t think there would be any trouble. Silly me.

Am I allowed to play with this bad boy? Bb1000 from 1978, bought from our very own PawelG a few months back. I wasn't using it live until a few weeks ago as I kinda love my 5 string but I've forgotten how much i love 4 string basses! Will be playing this as my #1 for the next wee while.

Found my trusty old Yamaha book...

my BB1100s was made on 17th March 1987.

there are 100’s of serial number systems. Crazy.

The book isn’t that great to be honest, but gives some information.

Andy, would you mind having a look to see if there's anything for a BB800 , 001176 ? I think it's around '77 / '78.

Experiments with @TimAl

what do you think? Wouldn’t be screwed on, just double sided tape.

Like it a lot except for the little overhanging nipple bit at the top horn side. Feels like it just needs a slight shave to help it complement the contours of the body a bit more. It’s 95% there though IMO!

Yeah, it’s derived from the 414/1024/2024 pickguard I have to work with. It is a bit pointed.

This was more for the different pickup placement and slight variation in horn width.

@TimAl will have the final version right - this is just a template

Ah, no, I was referring to the “mini horn” on the other side of the neck pocket!

Ah this?

yeah, I was overzealous with the scalpel 🤦🏻‍♂️

Tim has a pre-loaded template and will just adapt the horn and pickup placement - he makes it sound easy, he’s a clever bloke.

1977 as far as I can make out.

relies on one of the many ridiculous systems.

Not as easy with the old Japanese ones - but this sits with a range of serial numbers for bb basses in 1977

Sort of going off the Yamaha one I have. Want them to match up.

I see what you mean. I think it’s perhaps that on the orange BB that bit ends a little further back from the edge of the body whereas yours is quite close to the edge. Put the two next to each other and you’ll see what I mean. There’s not a huge amount in it, maybe a centimetre or so?

If any of that makes sense!

Yeah, it’s between 5/10mm. Will review when I’ve not had a glass of wine.

Thanks Andy, that ties in with what I know about the history of the bass before I got it, in 1979.

Like the pickguard experimentation. Not a huge fan of the pickguard shape on my 435 if I’m completely honest - would want to play around a little with a custom replacement.

Have you seen the custom one on @jrixn1's 434? It looks great!
