Agreed, lovely looking 615 has just appeared on ebay in a great natural finish. Highly conservative colour options on the current range of BBs. We must be due a new range of BBs soon? BB1600 - a Tony Kanal sig? BB2000? BB1200? Reissue the basses which are the iconic ones - like the BBPH was sort of a 1200s reissue (albeit a bit off). Dunno. I might be well off. Despite the fact that I never got a sound I loved out of it, despite the fact that my thumb gets tired gripping the back of its very thin neck, I'm still feeling very bad about waving goodbye to it, and that's because its such good quality, especially for the money, it's completely without faults. Good weight, good balance, keeps in tune, looks beautiful, active electronics work immaculately. In every respect the 424 feels a more basic object - presumably the fair like for like comparison would be the BB734. Damn you, picky hands, damn you, picky ears. The current Series "3" BB734A doesn't really have a direct predecessor in the Series "2" range, it's really a combination of features from the Series 1 BB614 with the Series 2 BB1024. Personally if I had to chose, I would actually go for a 1024 over the 734A - or more accurately the 1025 over the 735A. I have been very impressed with the sounds I can get out of the 734A. I have also been very surprised how good it sounds in passive mode and I love the fact there is no change in volume when switching between active and passive.
