Al Krow Posted February 15 Author Posted February 15 APRIETA - VINCEN GARCÍA - Great to see one of the world's top current bass players using a Yamaha BB! 2 Quote
jezzaboy Posted February 16 Posted February 16 It`s weird but when I`m out gigging or watching a band I can`t recall ever seeing a player using a BB bass. I have one but haven`t gigged it yet as the look doesn`t really suit the band but I might take it along to the next one so that some smart ar*e acdc fan can say to me that Cliff Williams never played a Yamaha. 1 Quote

Chadu25 Posted March 21 Posted March 21 To the owners of the BB435, how much does your bass weigh? Just looking for an idea. On the fence of getting one. My last heavy bass that I did not like was the Lakland 55-02. 5kgs is too much for me for pub gigs. Quote
BassApprentice Posted March 25 Posted March 25 Another day, another bass showing that Yamaha can do really cool things but not for us mere peasants. Custom for Vicen Garcia 1 1 1 Quote
AndyTravis Posted March 25 Posted March 25 That control knob array is vile. Other than that…big thumbs up. Quote

BassApprentice Posted March 25 Posted March 25 I missed the jack the first time round...6 knobs is impressive for a PJ setup Quote

BassApprentice Posted Sunday at 19:49 Posted Sunday at 19:49 (edited) I've been eyeing that BB414 with the gold-y bits for a good few weeks, but then that 1024X appeared With not much in the prices, for those who have tried both - which comes out on top? Edited Sunday at 20:04 by BassApprentice Typo for the BB414 Quote

I had both… I still have the 414. Quote

One is 4 string the other 5 so that's your biggest difference. The 1024 should be the better bass being two models further up the line, but as with everything it depends what you prefer. I had a 1024 and it was a great bass in all aspects. I haven't had a 415 so couldn't comment but I think the 414/5 had slimmer necks compared to their counterparts in that series. Quote

Slightly classier finish but it’s quite marginal. Fantastic alnico pickups. Like Andy, the 414 is the one I still own. Quote

I've got a 1024 and they're fantastic basses - never had so many postive remarks from sound techs 1 Quote
BassApprentice Posted Tuesday at 10:26 Posted Tuesday at 10:26 Well I've pulled the trigger on the 414 - the black and gold combo just looked too cool to let slide. Agree on the 1024 being a bargain - would still have thought that at £500 but £425 is stupidly good value considering what that gets you for a new Yamaha these days. 1 Quote

Black and gold is always a good look... Quote
MrDinsdale Posted Tuesday at 12:24 Posted Tuesday at 12:24 Feeling saucy so think I‘ll grab that 1024x. Always had a soft spot for them, particularly the laminate necks. The finish isn't my first choice but at least I could scratch the itch! 1 Quote
BassApprentice Posted Tuesday at 12:32 Posted Tuesday at 12:32 I am tempted to try a ramp on this incoming 414 - however with the pickups surrounds does it make it a bit more tricky? I assume perspex would be the way forward, anyone know someone who would make one? Quote
Woodinblack Posted Tuesday at 12:40 Posted Tuesday at 12:40 wouldn't wood be a good option, then you can paint it the right colour Quote

Will take it along to a local lutheir/tech and pick their brains when in arrives. Quote

Congrats, I had a 414 , really great bass and I’ve got a 1024 which does sound slightly different but also very good, I like the easy selection of pickups with the little switch Quote
