So my pick up switch is not working. All pick ups on all of the time ?

Does anyone know what is wrong?

As @MoJo stated earlier - the switches are notoriously weak on the 414. Mine was replaced with a switchcraft upon purchase.

he’s your man for more information

I am thinking of fitting normal sized PJs in one of my BB (of old) . Does anyone has / knows of pictures how this looks like together with the pu frames?

I wonder if I just could put something fitting in the space of the neck pu and how much wood work it would be for fitting the J-neck pu into the body...

I've always replaced mine with a Switchcraft equivalent. The original switches can be glued. I have a couple in my tool box that have been glued back together with superglue and the repair seems incredibly strong.

Nice BB614 on eBay - collect only.

Near Bristol? Melksham?

Raspberry Red - so one of the last 614’s.

Thank goodness for @AndyTravis's BB Radar. That's all I can say.

I thought I'd take this opportunity to raise a question that I've always wanted to ask. The pickups in the 414 and 614 seem to be identical. I imagine they are exactly the same pickups. In which case, if a 614 had a active/passive switch fitted, it would be possible in theory to create the BB614s, combining the best of both models. Am I correct?

Yes - although if you set the eq flat on a 614, you’ve basically got a 414 anyhow.

So, save the modding money...

Love that red - not driving 250 mile round trip for it though.

I wondered if a 614 with the EQ set flat would sound like a 414

Yeah. That’s why I sold my 614, I set it flat most of the time. Was a lovely bass. Should’ve kept it.

Nowhere near me either. I have a friend who has an identical 614 that he doesn’t play any more. He’s switched to short scale. Perhaps I should ask him if he’s interested in selling it

I’ve owned an estimated 14 x BB414’s (including the two I currently own), 3 x BB415’s, 2 x BB424’s, 2 x BB425’s, and 1 x BB1024  but I’ve never owned a BB614

I’ve also owned 3 x BB300, 1 x BB350F, 1 x BB404, 2 x BB405, 1 x BB1100s and 1 x BB1500a

You could say that I’m quite fond of Yamaha BB’s

The BB1500a. I wish I’d hung onto that one

Ok, BB's owned (and mostly gone)
BB3000, BB3000MA, 4xBB1000MA, 2xBB300, 3xBB414, 2xBB424, 2xBB1600, BB416, BB1024x

Most missed one: BB3000.  Sold it when I was looking for a more modern EMG tone... well the 1600's also were ...outstanding

Always an option to drop another pot in & go VVT, that's what I did with my 425 & I'm happy with the results!
