Al Krow
Some very impressive additions in the past couple of days! Looking forward to getting your feedback on how they sound and play.

Fil1ip
So a day with the BB714bs It feels very familiar and very similar to my BB414 which is great. The Neck pick up is very addictive and gives me a great low end. The black nickel hardware is really nice to look at and finishes it off nicely. It came with the original manual, Allen key and gig bag which is nice. Not hearing a massive tonal difference when turning the tone on or off but need to have more time with it. It's a 2008 July made. The colour is amazing 😍.
Al Krow
@Fil1ip - lovely looking bass! Came across this review of the 714BS - I presume yours also has the push / pull feature referred to [2.40]? The neck pup sounds grittier than I was expecting [3.50] and really good, although the pull switch sounded a little muffled in his clip. The solo P bass pup at [4.46] has that classic Yammy P bass sound we all love. Edited February 28, 2021 by Al Krow

Just had a good session with the tone And the boost and neck pick up only is a bit dirty, it really does add something different

I roll back the neck pickup a little because it’s a bit too muddy for my liking and when fully on, it seems to create a sort of phasing of the tones. However, it’s an awesome bass and I wouldn’t part with mine for anything! I have the attitude ltd 2 but much prefer the BB714. matbard
hello guys, I have an issue with my BBPH that only YOU, fellow BBers, can solve... I bought 3 sets of Peter Hook stainless steel strings from Bass Center (the are just .040-.105 with a .060 for the high G string...). I strung them through body, but broke TWO Gs as I tried to setup the bass (mine came with a nice flat neck but a high action...). Could be an issue with the string length? I noticed that the string retainer stay on the silk but when I see Peter Hook with his own bass I see and unwound G string. Could be this a custom made for the string through body? It's a superb bass at the top of Yamaha's quality tree but £2k rather than £4k would be the more reflective price for me.

Hi Matbard - sorry to hear about this. I suspect you maybe quick off the mark in terms of getting round to a first string change although I think @hookys6stringbass mentioned he had changed the strings on his PH too and maybe able to assist. Some are yep Cheapest I've seen a mk3: https://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_specialists/Yamaha_Billy_Sheen_LTD_3.html The 30th Anniversary model has an MSRP of $7,000, whatever that equates to in the UK. *just checked, $7k = £5033.80 😮 Edited March 1, 2021 by andy67
gobasserk
That's way too much, even for the customshop. It's "just" a model out from a series, no one of a kind bass. But as long as they can find customers for it...why change?
MM Stingray 62
Personally I would never pay 5K for it or any other Yamaha they’re fantastic basses. But if I was going to spend 5K on a bass it would be something that’s going to hold it’s value something like a MK 1 Wal bass. Although the RRP on the NE2 has also gone up to over £4k! I think that may be down to historical exchange rates, though, and when particular items were shipped to the UK. £ is now up to $1.40 now from lows of around $1.15 a couple of years back and misplaced fears about it falling to parity with the € and even 1:1 with the $. I'd hope the costs of imported basses will begin to reflect the higher £ buying power we now have. Edited March 1, 2021 by Al Krow
Reggaebass
I really like the attitudes, especially with the fat neck woofer, so I went and played one with the intention to buy it, and the profile of the neck really put me off, maybe it’s because I’m so used to my jazzes and I also have P basses but it just felt too chunky for me 🙂 Edited March 1, 2021 by Reggaebass

Al Krow
And the daft thing is it will cost you half the RRP of an Attitude and you'll be able to get it with your choice of woods, pups, John East preamp, neck profile and vintage white finish...

With a Wal you know you invest in something stable concerning it's "worth". (the the personel one)
