AndyTravis Posted October 17, 2021 Posted October 17, 2021 @Ricky Rioli something’s not right there… pickup with surround wasn’t an 800 feature either. That’s from a 450/1100s Pickguard needs to go. neck looks lovely. 1 Quote

The funny angle the pickup is at makes me wonder what is under that terrible pg. The engraved bridge is correct though – which other models had that? An old Reverb ad for this actual instrument: BB800 Yeah I was wondering about the colour, as far as I know they were available in black and turdburst, never seen a white one. Serial number and the Broad Bass decal puts it towards the end of the run I think, so 80 - 81 ? Could be wrong about that. BB1000 and BB1200 would also have had that bridge. Tuners look right - what I can see of them is identical to my BB800. Hard to tell but it looks like the nut might have been replaced with a thinner one and a shim. 2 Quote

Guest Posted October 17, 2021 Posted October 17, 2021 I know it makes no sense, but the mispositioning of the tone knob on the home-made pg makes me nervous Quote
andy67 Posted October 17, 2021 Posted October 17, 2021 The pups look offset and re the position of the tone on PG, my instincts tell me it may possible be a Sheehan BB clone attempt underneath the PG. The space between the tone and Jack May have been getting ready for a second volume. Quote
Hacksawbob Posted October 18, 2021 Posted October 18, 2021 Added some stacked pots and knobs to the bb425 today for 'fun'. Interesting variations available and just replacing the pots from the originals has whipped a few electrons into line as it does seem a bit more presence/brighter. I went with my usual 0.1uf so I have sparkle down to pure mud option. I changed the switch to after the pots so I have independent control on single pickup selection. Centre needs a bit more work as I think might have to fit some resistors for prevent the volumes fighting in the centre position. But happy with the experiment so far. Any one else tried this? 3 Quote

Yea, something is definitely up with the pickguard, and the tone pot does not work. It also has a poorly repaired ding on the lower bout visible from the back. It's definitely had some knocks, but I will tell you that bass plays brilliantly. Every note on the neck rings true and clear, the action is perfect, no weird resonances, and despite the defunct tone pot, it sounds great! I own a new BBP34 and I think this bass plays just as good, if not better." Quote

I like the idea of this. I quite like having two volumes and two tones. My Longhorn (stop it! 😉) sounds great with the tone down on the neck PU, with a bit of tone full of on bridge PU mixed in for a clear thump. Or both volumes on full with neck tone full but bridge tone rolled back slightly gets some thick clank going on. Quote

Maude Posted October 19, 2021 Posted October 19, 2021 It's properly nailed his tone. I know he used a Clone Theory but I liked the idea of the Bass Clone and it's 99% the same tone. I like that the x over switch takes the bottom end out of the effects so it stays solid and punchy, not all swampy. The bass and treble then act as boost and cut to how much bass and treble gets affected. Kind of like a dry bottom end and wet top end, rather than all the same. It works well. 3 Quote

I such a sad silly billy! 😄 I've not read the rest of this thread but let's see, red Yamaha BB, EHX Clone pedal, ergo a Peter Hook fan. Whilst I've not really played a Yamaha in over a decade, I do use a chorus, and specifically a Bass Clone (previously a Small Clone) because of Hooky. Excellent pedal, fantastic effect. 2 Quote
gobasserk Posted October 20, 2021 Posted October 20, 2021 Did this soundfile last year with an old Zoom B2 and a BB1000MA. It's a bit Hooky and a bit of Tony Butler, who I learned a lot of in the early days of my playing and who I call my "teacher" 🙂 Yamaha BB - Hook style 1 Quote
