J S Bach: Air on the G string (could be considered ground breaking Bass).
Now, there are more notes used than mentioned in some of the tunes above, but, they ain't all in one bar.

The Light Pours out of Me by Magazine. Quite a tricky one note riff in the verses.

I want to like that, but the guitar sounds like that Gary glitter tune and its just off putting.

Celebration - Kool & The Gang. I could play the G in the verses forever.

Depends if the rest of the band are playing it in the original key I suppose!

Most my initial thoughts mentioned already

Summertime - The Sundays , if I remember its just 2 notes reversed for chorus , ok you wouldn't put it down as a greatest ever line, but the song achieves a lot with very little

Gene Chandler - Does she have a friend for me , never leaves the root in 1/4s but its so soulful and teases like its gonna do fill but doesn't

Love this = the music and the film.

Lots of notes in the riff...

Public Image gets my vote (even though this isn't a democracy)...

Forgot about this number, it's such a groovy tune.
It is mentioned by a YouTube poster, but worth another mention, the girl backup vocals are real class. :)
